Welcome everybody to Who Do You Think You Are? Live 2013!
I think family history is much more mainstream than it used to be. We've got alot more people
coming to the show, today's been very busy, even despite the cold weather outside. So
I think family history is something many, many more people do. Everyone's got a family and
so everyone wants to find out a little bit more about who they are and where they came
from.
One thing in particular is the TV programme, Who Do You Think You Are? I mean that's really
popularised family history and genealogy in general and alot more people are interested
in finding out more about their family roots, seeing what celebrities can find out.
Well to kind of uncover the past, uncover all the mysteries, all the things that we
have wondered our ancestors, how they used to live, what things uesed to be like forthem.
Up in the galleries the 'Ask the Experts' area, where if you've got a problem you can
have a one to one consultation wth a volunteer who's had alot of experience and can point
you in the right direction, give you some fresh ideas. So, it's got easier because I
think there's alot of people here willing to help you do your family history.
The people that we've spoke to have been very helpful and very informative and if they haven't
known the answers they've known people who have known the answers and it seems to save
quite a bit of time.
I think it's an extrodinary event of very friendly people all of whom have this burning
desire to find out more about their forebears. For me it's a great pleasure to be able to
light up people's faces when you've unlocked another key for them in the search of their
family.
Well I'd say to them just come and give it a go and you can find out so much more about
your family and it's not just boring grown up stuff, it's actually good for everybody!
