Each year, hundreds of puppies are bred from backyard breeders.
The puppies often end up being advertised on the internet,
sold in pet shops, or from car boots.
Many of these puppies have no chance of a good life as a family dog
with caring, loving owners.
Often,
backyard breeders are not aware of any underlying health conditions that can be
passed down from the parents
or they simply do not care.
And, as a result,
the puppies are born with these conditions.
Some problems are present at birth, but others do not become apparent for years.
They may develop painful and disabling physical issues including heart and respiratory diseases,
joint problems, blindness or immune disease.
Another major issue that the RSPCA often faces is rescuing female dogs
kept in deplorable conditions whose sole purpose in life
is to constantly produce puppies for sale by ruthless backyard breeders.
In most cases, these cute puppies are sold to unsuspecting new owners
who have no idea where their new pet comes from from
or the heartbreaking problems that will come.
That's why RSPCA is pushing for new laws that will make sure
any person who breeds from a dog is registered.
And that all puppies are microchipped prior to sale.
The microchipped puppy can then be traced back to the breeder.
And you can help us.
