Maria Bello: Bob Myman was the first person I met thirteen years ago when I got off a bus from New York City.
I'll never forget at a TV taping he came up to me and said, "Do you need some help? I'd like to represent you."
And I'd heard about these L.A. "guys". And I said, "What? Do you want to sleep with me? What's up with you?"
And he just smiled and laughed and the next day I was in his office. We've been together for thirteen years.
He's my father, my friend, he's changed my life, he's shown me what gentleness is
and courage and strength and love and I'm so happy you're in my life, Bob.
Narrator: Alumnus Robert M. Myman is a founding partner of Myman, Abell, Fineman, Fox, Greenspan, Light LLP,
one of the nation's leading entertainment law firms. In 1963 Bob enrolled in San Fernando Valley State College
and began to demonstrate a competitive spirit and an adept ability to take on multiple projects.
As a student athlete he earned Varsity letters as a member of Matadors swimming and water polo teams,
he joined Zeta Beta Tau faternity and worked as the drummer for a surf band.
After earning his Bachelors degree from CSUN and his JD from USC School of Law,
Bob began practicing law in the LA County Public Defender's office.
Paul Moore: I met Bob in 1971 when he walked into the Public Defender's office as a freshly scrubbed new lawyer.
But immediately I came to realize that Bob is a master of personal relationships.
Benjamin Bratt: When I first got to this town some 23 years ago I didn't know a damn thing and he took me under wing
at a time when I didn't even know what it was that an entertainment lawyer did.
And I didn't for a number of years because he wouldn't charge me, he refused to charge me.
But I think that speaks to the kind of person he was, he saw potential and he nurtured a friendship first and foremost.
Damon Lindelof: I got a job on a terrible television show. Someone told me to call Bob. I'd never spoken to him before.
He picked up the phone. I asked him if he'd help me with my deal sight unseen. He hooked me up. He didn't charge me a penny.
He said, "We'll worry about it later." And here we are almost twelve years later.
And this is one of the greatest relationships of my life. He is my friend, my family and the man I trust more than anyone in the world.
Narrator: Bob particularly valued a close personal friendship and professional partnership with the late John Ritter.
The two collaborated on dozens of projects and together created Adam Productions.
John Ritter: The first kid I ever met that I loved was his son who is now.... 12?
Bob Myman: Ten.
Audience: *laughter*
John Ritter: I loved him, but I never knew what his birthday was.
Audience: *more laughter*
John Ritter: And his name is Adam but also Adam was the first guy around, unless you believe what Darwin said.
So this is our little logo. It's an apple with two bites out. Not Adam and Eve but Myman and Ritter.
And we believe in original cinema you see.
So that is what we'd like to do.
Narrator: Bob was recruited to serve as the managing director of the talent division
for the 1993 and 1997 Presidential Inaugural committee in Washington D.C.
He has been honored by the Century City Bar Association as entertainment attorney of the year
and has been included in the Hollywood Reporter's power list.
Benjamin Bratt: For all those accomplishments and your recognition of him tonight is well deserved.
I see him for what he is ultimately to me and that is a genuinely kind human being.
Paul Moore: Bob was mightily influenced by his father Sam who passed away in 2001, by his mother Fran
who is happily with us. By Debbie his wife, by his son Adam, his daughter Catherine, Tracy his daughter-in-law
Matt his son-in-law, his grandchildren Jack and Lucy. So, Bob, we are honoring your success
in life, a life filled with profound personal relationships.
For that truly, Bob, is your greatest gift.
Damon Lindelof: Congratulations, Bob, on being a Distinguished Alumni, you are one of the most distinguished gentlemen I've ever met.
And I am honored to know you and I love you.
