Rose was Rosey we all called her Rosey
she loved to travel she believed that her education at UNC Charlotte gave her the
ability to travel and to be able to come back you teach her students from actual
experiences instead of just teaching out of the textbook
and she loved that
no one was prouder than to come to the graduations and watch her former
students go across that stage
no doubt Miss Bonnie Cone was Rose's mentor from the very beginning she
found Rose and told her that she should be a teacher and help her to
go in that direction and obtain that degree
Miss Bonnie called Rose one day and said I want you to be a teacher and I have you
scheduled for a conference in
Cabarrus County with the superintendent you are to bring your gloves and your hat
and show up at the appointed time and with gloves and hat in hand
she got off from work that day
got in her car went to Cabarrus County and
came back with a sixth-grade class in hand
when she first started at Central High School she would
go to work all day long
eight-hour day
rush to the campus
and take Miss Bonnie and Miss Mildred English a bar of candy and a Coke and go by their desk
and they would sit and chat about the day and then she would go to class
and she was totally involved she was on many many committees
a head of some a secretary of some it was just a wonderful experience for her
to be a part and to see everything grow Rosey considered herself a pioneer that she
helped move from Central High School came out to the barn it was dirty with cobwebs
etc and she and other students took those brooms and knocked them all down and
had picnic that day
as the first building on this campus as it is now Rose never forgot that this
university through Miss Bonnie gave her a second chance to get an education
and by doing so she considered it to be her honor to do what she could
for the University and by giving back to the University
in all the way easy she did
it just made her to be proud
to be a part of this and to watch the Univeristy grow and watch the students come out
as such professionals as they have.
