I Seek refuge with Allah from the shaitaan the ***.
With the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful.
Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah to all of you,
ladies and gentlemen.
The topic is, what Al-Quran says about Iblees
translated as in English language, the Devil
and shaitaan which is translated as satan.
This is the topic.
These two words, Iblees and Shaitaan
have occurred in the Arabic language
and in the Quranic ayats as well as translated in English language
as devil and evil or satan. For shaitaan the translation is satan
and for Iblees, the translators have used in English language, devil.
But these are the two words of one personality.
What is the difference between these two words?
Iblees comes from the root letter of Arabic word Balasa / Iblees.
And it's translation is, "wrapped up in grief,"
this is an explanatory meaning. In the Arabic words,
in the Quranic ayats, the word has been used as, "Mublis" and "Mublisoon"
meaning, the people who are wrapped up in grief.
Totally, completely, they're wrapped up in grief.
That is the meaning of balasa / Iblees the root letter.
Shaitaan means satan or evil.
In English, Iblees is translated as devil,
and for shaitaan the translation is satan or evil.
And the dictionary meaning of shaitaan /satan in English is,
an adversary to man or opposing to man.
That is the satan. How you're going to hear this lecture is,
the meanings of these two words,
the essence of the meanings of these two words and secondly,
a small comparison with the Bible also.
Certain verses I'll be quoting to have a comparative view.
In the whole Bible this word Satan has been used only 12 times
and the devil is used 7 times.Totally
it contains 19 times in the verses of the Bible.
But there are many ayats in the Quran
from which I've selected few to have a small understanding
of the behavior (how the shaitaan or the devil behave in a particular situation)
and by the behavior of this personality,
we can identify the devil and the shaitaan as well as the mankind,
he's the adversary or opposer of our personalities,
we must understand
when a human-being is acting under the influence of the Iblees
or the shaitaan.
Allah says to the mankind in the ayats that he's our open enemy.
So whenever the devil is dominating on our personality
and the shaitaan or the Satan, as an opposer
or an adversary to man,
he's doing it in a situation,
we must identify.
The purpose of this lecture is to clarify the enmity among ourselves
but to identify the devil in every situation,
as how the Devil or the Evil or the shaitaan is reacting amongst us,
amongst human beings.
We think that there's a confrontation going on
amongst us in between is the shaitaan / the Devil.
That is the purpose of this lecture - to identify our relations
with y our mother, children, husband and wife and the society
that we live in,
we must always try to identify among ourselves,
when a human being is being affected by the devil/Iblees or the shaitaan/satan.
Now this is an example or a narration or an event,
narrated by Allah about an incident that's been taking place
between the angels and man, for man.
So Allah says to the angels that I am going to create
a human-being from clay
and when that human-being is being created by Allah
and Allah has made that human-being evenly balanced or in proportion.
Then Allah breathed into him,
into that man from His spirit.
And when the spirit has been breathed into that man,
Allah says to the angels, bow down for this person.
Now the question is what is Rooh?
Is it a part of Allah?
There are certain misunderstandings in the world
like the spirit of Allah is the part of Allah.
No. Like, for example, you have come and visited this place
and I say this center belongs to me.
So I will not say that I am the center.
The center, where you people are sitting is mine.
I would be like an owner but I will not say I am the center.
So Allah when he says Allah breath into that person his spirit
is not He (Him). Allah is not spirit.
Allah in the Quran is defined by his attributes.
He's "Wudood" loving,
He's "Khaliq" the creator,
He's "Rabb" the Lord or the Nourisher, the Cherisher.
These are the qualities or the attributes by virtue of
which we identify Allah.
But when he says, He breathed unto the man his spirit,
is the essence of the message of Allah's ayats.
But at the moment I'm telling you, the spirit,
the essence or the Rooh, is the Book.
The words in Arabic text is the Book of Allah
which contains the spirit, essence in it.
That, when Allah breathes into Bashr, Adam
and then Allah asked the angels to bow down.
In other words, Allah was asking the angels to bow down for the Adam
or the Bashr who's got My (His) spirit/essence of the message of Allah.
And in one of the places,
Allah taught Adam the names
and then asked the angels to tell,
they didn't tell. They said, "Whatever You have taught us
we can tell you that."
But the spirit was given to Adam then Allah taught Adam the words.
And there's another place where Allah taught Adam the names.
So the names and the words were given to Adam but before
when Allah asked the angels to bow down,
the spirit is given, the essence.
And then the words were given,
the usage of the words to transfer the spirit.
So you must understand what I've been discussing.
So now, when Allah breathes or inspires,
the spirit of the essence of the message of Allah's ayats,
Allah asked the angels to bow down for that person, containing the spirit.
So all the angels bow down all together
except the Iblees.
That angel who was wrapped up in grief,
because of this act.
So Iblees is a personality who has grievance against God.
We sometimes are hurt, like in the ayats of the Quran Allah says,
"That we will try you by giving you hurts."
Arabic
Allah tries mankind by the hurtness,
by the loss of wealth and by the hurtness in psychology.
So once, Allah hurts a human being,
and your actions are not there –
So in the world when somebody hurts you,
you want to take vengeance against the person.
But you can't take vengeance against God,
so what you'll do is, you'll try to go against the truth
and reality of Allah's message automatically.
So that is how an Iblees personality is introduced by Allah
that the free will was given to bow down except Iblees
who was wrapped up in grief.
He did not bow down because he sought greatness against God
and he was wrapped up in grief.
So now Allah will further question him, for his not bowing down.
Now you must understand this is a discussion;
a dialogue or a reality between Allah and the Devil.
You see you must understand,
the greatest enemy to Allah is in communication with Allah.
You must understand this.
We think that Allah cannot talk to us,
because we're so dirty and wrong,
what about our boss?
The Iblees, devil, the shaitaan?
He's trying to misguide people.
He's in communication with Allah.
Allah is saying, Oh devil, Iblees,
Arabic
what prevented you to prostrate
for what I have created with my hands?
What prevented you? Did you seek greatness?
This is how Allah's explaining his psyche.
Or are you from the higher class?
These are the two points from where we can pick it up,
from any human-being,
because you must understand this is related to our psyche also.
Any person, who is in a severe complex of inferiority,
reverse into higher, superior complex.
He's seeking greatness and from the higher class, why?
This is because of the fact that Allah chose Adam,
for bowing down.
Now he felt low.
Anybody who's chosen and you're not,
you feel low in any comparison.
And once you think you're lower than that person
who's created by God Almighty,
you cannot fight Allah but you'll be wrapped up in grief
because Allah did not choose you.
And once you're wrapped up in grief,
you'll have this psychological inferiority complexes
converted into superiority complex that you will seek greatness
and become higher class to prove that
this choice of Allah is wrong, which you cannot.
You cannot prove Allah wrong because
he knew everything. He did it, purposely.
So you cannot prove God Almighty wrong
but the point is, his own standards, and to him Allah's asking,
"Did you seek greatness?
Or you're from the higher class?"
So I'm trying to explain that the higher class is
related to a severe inferiority complex.
And to seek greatness is a severe inferiority complex.
Any human-being suffering from serious inferiority complex,
seek greatness in the world.
So he had the inferiority complex in the eyes of God,
so he went against God, because Allah chose the personality.
So then he gives the argument
Arabic
which is, "He (Iblees) said, I am the better one from him.
You created me from the fire and created him from the clay.
" Now Iblees/ devil says that You (Allah) have created me,
from fire and you created him from the clay.
Now he's trying to compare between the creation,
between himself and the man.
But the most important point that you all must understand
and when you're listening to an ayah,
you must not forget, the spirit/essence.
The spirit and the essence is that Allah says
that when I breath into him my spirit then you fall down.
So he (Iblees) did not discuss the spirit
or the essence of the message of Allah's ayat,
the purpose. He went into an argument of mere words,
that You created me from fire and him from clay.
What about the spirit?
When Allah says that when I make him even or proportion
then when I breath into him My spirit then you fall down.
In other words Allah was asking to bow down to Adam
who got the spirit, the knowledge of the essence of Allah's message
that the angels didn't have.
So that was the purpose of bowing down.
So he (Iblees) said no, I am better than him.
So now you must understand this kind of complex of
"I am better than him," "I have been created from fire
and him from clay,"
so you must understand in the world,
on this basis (I am better) from the very young age,
we are programmed into this kind of philosophy
(I am better than him).
In competitions of knowledge, in competitions of sports,
every human-being is trying to be a better person
in the eyes of a man, continuously!
Not in the eyes of Allah Almighty but in the eyes of man,
he's continuously having competition,
trying to influence other people by saying I am better than you!
Gaining tremendous amount of knowledge,
gaining tremendous amount of wealth,
I mean there are many issues.
Every issue is based on this argument that I am better
which is a severe inferiority complex.
Why would you want to say that I am better is
because Allah hasn't chosen you.
So you want to convince God Almighty towards what?
So that is why you take up the standards
and compare yourself with another person.
So let me clarify, any complex, any comparison,
like comparison between man and woman!
In the whole world there's a controversy going on,
comparing men and women.
There's no comparison between men and women.
Then there's a comparison between languages.
This language is superior to the other language!
Then there's a comparison over colors.
The languages are created by God Almighty,
colors are created by God Almighty,
why are you trying to argue about the languages?
Superior language or the inferior language?
All the languages of the world are the creation of God Almighty.
All colors of man are the creations of God Almighty,
so there's no comparison.
All these ayats that I am reading is a dialogue
between Allah and Iblees
and we are trying to understand what is the message
in the essence we can derive from that understanding.
This is again, a discussion going on between shaitaan and Allah,
or Devil and Allah.
This devil further says in this ayat,
"Do You say this is the one, You've honored over me
whom Allah has breathed his spirit into.
"If you will give me respite towards the day of resurrection
I will make him and his dependents, worldly experienced,
except of a few." Except of few,
he will make the majority of the people worldly experienced.
And there's a sentence which is used in our language
as we are growing in the world in young ages,
if I am involved in some bad habit,
so I will tell my colleague,
who's not yet involved in that habit,
would you take a sip of this drink? You'll say,
"No no, my parents and he'll say,
"come on man,
if you will not have the experience how will you know what drink is?
You must have an experience
of all the wrong things in the world.
Drink something! Gamble something!
You shouldn't get into a habit,
but you must experience of all the wrongs.
" You may not have the experience of the rights
but must have experience of the wrongs.
So this shaitaan is making us worldly experienced continuously.
And what happens is when you start doing all these wrong acts,
you are not even aware of it but you become addicted to it
and it becomes a part of your personality.
You started off by just experiencing a thing,
and finally you're addicted to that
and it becomes totally a part of your personality.
This is how, he says,
"definitely if You give me respite towards the day of resurrection,
I will make him and his descendants worldly experienced,
except of few."
So Allah says, "go away!
Whosoever follows you from them surely hell is your reward
and abundant reward,"
meaning Allah has taken it as a challenge
and He says okay go away,
whosoever follows you from them
surely hell is your reward and abundant reward."
So all these arguments that I am discussing is basically
a real dialogue or discussion between Allah and the devil himself.
So you must try to memorize these verses
about these words of what he's saying in it
and when in life you hear all this,
you must be careful at that time,
take a guard that this human being is under the influence,
you're gone to take him as a devil but you can understand
how this understanding is coming in our lives
when you're having discussion with somebody or with yourself.
Now these are the means that are given by Allah to the shaitaan/satan
by which means he can stir you up.
So Allah says,
"You can stir up or excite with your voice!"
The first is
Arabic
The first word is
"Bisauteeka"
meaning how you can stir up, with your voice Sauteeka!
So these are four, five things, I'll go one by one.
So first is, Allah is addressing to the shaitaan / the devil,
you can stir up.
Arabic
Whoever is obedient from you,
whoever is an obedient servant to the shaitaan,
you can stir him up with your voice.
The first is your voice or the sound.
In Arabic, Saut means sound or voice.
So Allah is telling the Iblees,
you can stir up, whoever is obedient to you,
with your voice or with your sound.
So I want people to think and ponder that how the voice can influence
and what influences us human beings?
What is that,
that the voice, the sound,
like I am using words, and you can hear my sound,
and at the same time you are hearing the message in these words.
But if I start using sounds which have no meaning,
so Allah says you,
the Iblees can stir up whoeverr is obedient to you with your sound
or with your voice.
Not the words or the meaning, only sound.
Not by the words. I'm using words, I've got a voice but I'm using words.
Only the voice which you can stir up,
your feelings/emotions are stir up, by the voice or the sound,
what is that?
But your feelings have worked up!
There are meanings given to different types of music,
different notes of the music,
which we may not understand or know anything
except of those people who learn music, who understand music, a whole subject.
The person who doesn't know anything,
anything of those understanding of the music,
I also don't know but whenever I hear any music,
whether it is western or eastern or whatever,
whether it's only instrumental or with sound,
I start moving, you know. Something goes on,
something happens.
If it is the music, I can't sit properly.
Then there's a certain aspect of music
in which you go into depression.
So this means the sound is having an effect on human brain
and psyche and specially emotions, so Allah says you can stir up! Stir up what?
Intelligence? No, emotions! Excite with your voice,
whosoever is obedient from them .
So all types of music, which is having an effect on human-beings, is stirring by the devil!
And the other word is
Arabic
"And import on them with your thought!"
Something to be imported on human beings,
that is his (shaitaan's) school of thought. When you listen to somebody, whether right or wrong,
he's trying to convey some message to you,
so when you're listening to something,
you're conceiving a school of thought, a view point.
So Allah is telling that you (shaitaan) can import on people
from outside with your school of thought or with your thought.
Arabic
Your thought
So you see there are schools of thought in religions.
Not just school of thoughts in religions
but in many aspects of life.
There are groups of people and they are joined together
by one particular school and that thought is imported by the satan / the devil.
The inventor of that thought is the devil.
There's no end to schools of thoughts, in all fields of life.
Arabic
And you can import on them your masculine manners.
You see, masculinity is defined in the psychology given in the world
that this is feminine, this is masculine.
Masculine, feminine are differentiated by their character traits and behavior.
There are certain character traits in women and man,
the way they walk, the way they talk
and their body language.
