The Vamps. It's a pleasure to meet you guys. You're going... Online, it's crazy at the
moment. Your fans are pretty into you at the moment, aren't they? They're very loyal and...
Intense. Is a good word to describe our fans.
Have they approached you in the street? Have they done crazy stuff after gigs? What's the
wildest thing you've seen a fan do?
Chasing after the bus or the van. We did like a mini-tour, and they like... We came out
of the venue, got in the van and we're driving away, and they're like opening the door while
it was... It was a bit like a zombie apocalypse, but it was good. A good zombie apocalypse.
So briefly, how did you guys all come to being in a band together?
Well, many moons ago... No, about two years ago, I was looking to make a band because
I was bored and kind of singing to myself, so I found Brad on YouTube singing like an
Ed Sheeren cover, and we started writing together and then...
You were like pen pals?
Oh yeah, it was a cyber relationship for awhile. Then I started visiting Brad. Then I started
visiting James as well. then yeah, we didn't even really want more members, well at that
point.
We still don't. I don't know why they've come along with us today.
No, we weren't even looking for members at that point, and then I saw a video of Tristan.
It was his audition tape for Young Drummer of the Year. And I remember we liked his Hawaiian
shirt, and I was like this guy has got style.
What about 1D? I'm sure you've been asked about this already. They're cool guys. Does
that ever involve a certain setback?
I mean, we covered a lot of their stuff early on, like a year ago, and that's what. We were
lucky to get hits on their covers. So I mean, we've kind of built our fans to that, and it's been
great for us.
So fans of theirs are fans of yours.
Well, hopefully. That'd be lovely. Yeah, that would be nice.
Have you met them? I've met Liam before the band, but I haven't
met him since. Yeah, we haven't met any of them.
What do you make of their success?
They work really hard in life. They deserve every success they get, but I mean we really...
They inspire us in the music. We all have music and then like other types of music as
well.
I think... We toured with McFly like a couple of months ago, and I think we kind of... We've
been compared to them, but we kind of like that comparison because of the fact that they
like play their instruments and that's more kind of like suited to us because we are like
drums, guitar, a band sort of thing. So I think, that's probably more of an appropriate.
Or like Lawson? Lawson, yeah. Again, great musicians, great
writers. Very nice guys.
And your single. I keep saying in my head, We Can Dance, but it's not.
It's Can We Dance? We just got told that. We're like why is it not more like We Can
Dance? We like to kind of offer. We like consent,
and we're not really that kind of band that forces ourselves upon people. That would be
bad for us, probably. It's more of a question.
It's nice, yes. It's like saying May we. Proposition. It's very British, isn't it?
Well, I said that, yeah. We are English. Don't worry about if you don't want to. It's fine.
Don't worry about yeah. You don't have to dance.
What about ballroom dancing? Twerking... Me and Connor do that together. Could you two
pair up and just do a sit down quick ballroom? Go on.
Across Tristan? I'm no obstacle. We just kind of, and I do the spin like that. It's very
elegant. Isn't it?
