Six Costly Myths when Choosing Storage. Call them myths or misconceptions, mending these
minor errors in thinking will streamline your storage decisions and save you a boatload
of money to boot!
Storage Myth #3 One type of San Antonio Self Storage unit
is just as good as another.
No! The fact is there are many different types of storage units, for many different types
of storage requirements. While they are all “good” for one thing or another, they
may not all be “good” for you! And selecting the wrong type of unit can be costly in terms
of money, frustration and hassle.
Here is a quick summary of the types and uses for different self-storage units.
Climate Controlled Units. Climate Control storage is typically air-conditioned
and heated, stabilizing the temperature changes inside the storage room. Preventing the dramatic
swings in temperature fluctuation is why Climate Controlled units offer greater protection
for sensitive (and usually more expensive) items.
Climate Control units with Commercial Dehumidifiers. While “Climate Controlled” usually only
means that a unit will be temperature controlled, some storage facilities actually include both
HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning) in their climate controlled buildings (which
regulates temperature) plus commercial dehumidifiers, providing a greater level of humidity control
as well. While these facilities are few and far between, it never hurts to ask if commercial
dehumidifiers are offered in climate controlled buildings.
Non-Climate Controlled units (also known as Standard Units or your Basic Unit).
Similar to a typical home’s garage, non-climate controlled units offer convenient drive-up
access and a lower price. These units are great for short-term storage requirements,
and when storing non-sensitive items such as outdoor furniture, gardening equipment
or sporting equipment.
Hallway Non-Climate Controlled units. Some non-climate controlled units are inside
a building, and accessed from a hallway. While these Non-Climate Control units do not offer
drive-up access, they do offer protection from rain and dust, and from blowing leaves
and dirt. And conveniently you can move items out to the hall as you rearrange your unit,
without being concerned with the outdoor weather. And they are usually cheaper than Climate
Controlled hallway units.
Tall-Door Non-Climate Controlled units. While most Non Climate Control units have
8 foot high doors, “Tall Door” Non Climate Control units have doors as tall as 11 to
12 feet. These units are perfect for businesses that need to store larger equipment or for
persons wanting to store larger boats or vehicles in a fully enclosed space.
