General Education for me has really expanded my horizons.
I mean I think that one thing that's really good is that it forces you
to take things outside your major. You get to learn about the world and how other
people work. Put your feet in different pools; see if you're interested in something you
didn't know you were interested in. GEs help you explore different opportunities,
so that you don't become narrow-minded. It definitely broadens your horizons
and just makes you a more well-rounded person and a better member of society, and stuff
like that. It helps explore
the vast majority of academics that the school offers.
You can find your interests by taking GE classes. You get a broad scope
of what's out there, because a lot of people come into college thinking
they know what they want to do, and they now get a chance to taste
the other things out there. I really do believe that GEs really helped
me figure it out. I don't want to just limit myself to taking
math courses. That would be boring. You want to
try to get more well-rounded kind experience every quarter.
It gives you an opportunity to really try all different areas.
I know they are for other reasons, but I definitely utilized GEs
for that reason. If you just focus on, like,
what you think you're interested in, then you might not find out
something else that you're really interested in, and maybe that will change your life.
Without any exposure, you can't compete outside in the world, so ...
Use your brain differently, and I haven't done that a long time, and I'm
kind of looking forward to taking ... and I have one more GE to do
and I'm looking forward to taking that.
