Hey everybody welcome to another edition of Learning Stuff. Today's topic is 'why do we
wear wedding rings on this finger'- the ring finger on the left hand. Tradition has it
that in western civilization we wear our ring on our left hand on our fourth finger, which
we call the ring finger. But why does this tradition exist? There are three basic theories
on why we do this. Ok, the first theory is though to have roman roots. It was thought
that vein leading up to the ring finger was connected directly to the heart. This is called
vena amoris or the vein of love. Aww isn't that just sweet? This connection was later
proven false by scientists. The second theory is one of christian roots. When you're getting
married the preist would take your hand and he would take the ring and say 'the father,
the son, the holy spirit' and then when he said 'amen' he would put the ring on your
finger like that so that's how it wound up being the fourth finger. OK guys the third
theory - it's a little more boring. The idea is that since most of the world is right handed
they decided to put the ring on the left hand and they though the fourth finger was the
most protected finger. You'd wear it - boom - there's your ring finger. Supposedly your
ring has the best chance of not getting dinged up. Anyway, guys - that's all the information
I have on this topic. If you found that at all interesting fell free to hit that subscribe
