Hi, Carol here from FireHorse Consulting, today I want to speak to you a little bit
about financial goals and why they rarely work for me and for a lot of people I’ve
been meeting lately. I think financial based goals stop working once you reach them and
discover that maybe it's not all about the money. I've run into several professionals
lately who are quite successful and still searching for meaning or pleasure or something
out of their business - even if they have reached or exceeded their financial goals.
One thing I'm becoming increasingly sure of is that they don't work because they set a
specific picture in our head and if we miss that, somehow we've fallen short; we forget
to look at how far we came.
What I'd like to do instead is to get you to practice setting a different type of goal;
I’d like you to set your goal either based on a feeling that you would like to have from
your business, for example you want to feel valued by your customers or you can set a
lifestyle based goal. Lifestyle based ones are some of my favorites because they get
your imagination involved. An example of a lifestyle based goal is being able to go out
for, - I don't know - hundred-dollar lunches with business associates and not having to
worry about where that money is going to come from or are you missing out on and meeting
to potentially make more money. So, can you see how a lifestyle based goal not only includes
a financial twist sometimes - because you have to be able to afford the things that
you want in that lifestyle - but they get a little bit deeper and they can be incredibly
powerful.
This week your homework, should you choose to accept it, is to set a feeling or a lifestyle
based goal and then jot down a few things that you would have to do to make that goal
come true. What are some of the actions you need to take? And then it is as easy as doing
those actions. The thing is though is that those actions become a lot easier because
it's not only your brain in it, like with financial goals. With a goal that elicits
a feeling or a way you want to live, your imagination gets into it, your heart and soul
and everything around you gets right into it. It’s amazing how fast it can actually
take place.
So that's what I want you to do; set a goal, write down a few actions you actually need
to take to make that goal happen and get to it. It truly is and can be as easy as that.
I would love to hear how this exercise works for you. You can leave a comment via Facebook
