Getting help in the library is easy. It's everywhere.
The best place to start is the help desk, which is on the ground floor of the JB Morrell
Library
or at King's Manor in the centre of York. Here you can get help with whatever problems
or queries you may have.
The Help Desk staff can also refer you to your subject's Academic Liaison Librarian,
who will provide you with subject-specific support.
Hi, my name's Martin Wilkinson. I'm the Academic Liaison Librarian for biochemistry, biology,
chemistry and environment.
Every department has a dedicated Academic Liaison Librarian to help you find what you
need.
We'll show you how to use facilities, how to save time online by finding the right resources
right away, and how to support your arguments with credible sources.
You can email your Academic Liaison Librarian or book a one-to-one research consultation
from your subject guide page.
Go to the subject guide page on our website, go to the appropriate subject, and the details
of your Academic Liaison Librarian will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen.
We have recently introduced LibAnswers, which is an interactive service where you can ask
a question or search through our Library FAQs online.
We would recommend saving libanswers.york.ac.uk/ to your favourites so that you can request
help easily, whenever you need to.
You can also text us if you're being disturbed in the Library.
Include your location and the nature of the problem and send your text to 07919 293133.
We won't reply to your text, but we'll deal with the problem as soon as possible.
For IT-based support, your one-stop-shop is the IT Support Office on the first floor of
the Harry Fairhurst building.
The IT Support staff will be happy to help you with Google Apps, printing, connecting
your device to the Eduroam network, and everything in between.
The IT Support Office is open Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm. If you require guidance
outside of these hours then our online customer portal, Footprints, is your best option.
Here you can submit an IT question, view any issues that may currently be affecting the
IT Services and browse our Knowledge Base, where you'll find instructions and solutions
for a host of IT queries.
Familiarise yourself with Footprints when you get a chance; you can find it from the
IT Services website, via the Help page
The JB Morrell Library is open 24 hours a day, 362 days of the year.
Please remember that you need your University card in order to gain access to the Library
between 10pm and 8am, and that subject-specific support is not available during these hours.
For the opening times of all Library buildings please visit our website.
If you have any further questions about the library or IT, please don't hesitate to get
in touch. We welcome your feedback, and we're always looking for ways to improve our services.
