Jorma Ollila Chairman of the Board at Royal Dutch Shell since 2006
Ollila arrives to a meeting of the board of Helsinki University on the 24th of April 2013 at 8.55 AM
Hello Mr. Ollila, I am Jari Hanska from Voima magazine. Good morning, I am Susanna Kuparinen.
Jorma Ollila, Shell has been obstructing attempts to fight climate change
and it is one of the biggest lobbyists in the United States Do you believe in climate change?
Absolutely.
Shell has spent about five billion dollars on its Arctic oil drilling ventures. Drilling in that area has many environmental risks.
Is it acceptable to aim for big profits at the expense of the environment?
It is necessary to take some risks in order to get the energy that society and mankind needs
so that we can create growth and fight poverty. Now I have to go to a meeting.
So growth can be created at the expense of future generations?
Is Shell going to discontinue its oil drilling ventures in the Arctic?
Ollila exits the meeting of the board of Helsinki University at 11.37 AM.
You can arrange an interview with the communications department.
That's the standard procedure.
- We tried to arrange an interview but we were refused. But now you have the possibility to - Thank you, thank you
This is our question list as you don't give interviews about these matters.
The executive management of Shell gives the interviews.
Here you go. You use huge power in Finland
so it would be good if you'd take a closer look at the questions. Then we could discuss them.
I observe, I am only an observer on these matters in Finland.
Shell won the title of the worst company in the world this spring. How do you comment?
The executive management comments.
You have profiled yourself highly on environmental matters and you are a supporter of clean nature.
Don't you see a discrepancy when it comes to these questions?
No, I don't. I have done a lot of work on these matters, and so has Shell.
Shell has aborted its wind power undertakings in 2009. How does this fit in the picture regarding what you just said?
Will Shell stop drilling oil in the Arctic for good? How do you comment?
