How to crochet an amigurumi ball
To crochet an amigurumi ball start by making a flat circle.
The width of your flat circle will determine the width of your ball,
so make it as big as you want your ball to be.
Click the link above to see the detailed video on how to crochet a flat circle.
I increased my circle until round 5 where I worked (3 single crochets + 1 increase)
repeating it until the end of round.
At the end of this round I had 30 stitches.
To turn your flat circle into a ball you need to build your work up,
this is accomplished by working the same number of stitches on the next rounds, in this case 30.
Work the same number of rounds with no increases or decreases as the number of rounds where you increased.
I increased for 5 rounds so this means I have to work without decreases or increases for 5 rounds.
Work 30 stitches from round 6 to 10.
Don’t forget to always mark the first stitch.
By the end of the round 10 you’ll have kind of a cup with one open end.
All that’s left to do is close the opening by decreasing on every round.
On round 11 work (3 single crochets + 1 decrease) repeat 6 times until the end of the round.
At the end of this round you’ll have 24 stitches.
You’ll notice that your work is starting to grow towards the center and the opening is starting to get smaller.
For round 12 work (2 single crochets + 1 decrease) repeating this pattern 6 times until the end of the round.
At the end of this round you’ll have 18 stitches and the opening is a bit smaller.
At this time I like to start to stuff my amigurumi before the opening gets too small.
For round 13 work (1 single crochet + 1 decrease) 6 times until the end of the round.
At the end you you’ll have 12 stitches. Be careful not to pull the stuffing with your hook.
Stuff a bit more.
On round 14 decrease until the end of the round, leaving you with 6 stitches at the end.
Reinforce the stuffing.
At this point my fingers don’t fit into the opening anymore, so I use the flat end of the hook insert the stuffing.
All that’s left to do is cut the yarn and close the opening.
See the link above to watch the detailed video on how to close your amigurumi pieces.
The ball is completed and you can use it on your amigurumi projects!
