Hi I'm Lindsey with StarfireDirect.com and today we're answering the
question:
What is fire glass?
Fire glass, in the fireplace industry, is tempered and tumbled broken glass that
is specifically designed for use in gas fireplaces and gas fire pits.
Although it mostly comes in the shattered form, fire glass can also be
polished beads or pebbles.
For years people were looking for alternatives to gas log sets
and lava rock in their fireplaces
and that's why it today,
fire glass is becoming more and more popular. More so than ever!
You see, instead of having fire come up through fake ceramic logs or lava rocks,
now you have this sparkling bed a broken glass with beautiful dancing flames
right on top.
The look is absolutely stunning
and it's quickly becoming the industry standard for top designers,
celebrities,
hotels, resorts, restaurants, and now it's available
for you in your home.
At this point might be thinking,
"Why do i have to buy
broken glass,
Can't i just throw some broken coke bottles or a windshield in my fireplace?
Well, the answer is no.
You see, ordinary glass is not heat tempered and is not designed to withstand the
temperatures of the fire.
It can melt,
they could crack,
it could soot or smoke,
or even worse
pop and shoot out of your fireplace.
Windshield glass has a laminated plastic film that will melt when burned, and can
produce harmful toxins.
StarfireDirect.com carries only the finest quality fire glass on the
market today.
Our fire glass is heat tempered to withstand extreme temperatures
and is guaranteed not to crack, pop, soot,
smoke
or fade in color.
Our fired glass goes through a delicate
tumbling and polishing process
to make sure that there are no sharp edges,
and it brings about an unparalleled vibrancy in color and shine.
As you can see behind me,
fired glass comes in all kinds of colors, shapes,
and sizes.
Now, the type of fired glass that you select
isn't dependent on your fireplace or fire pit.
Actually, the type of fire glass that you use isn't going to change the performance of your
flame usually,
it's not gonna change the color of your flame either.
The fire glass that you choose is solely up to you.
These different styles of glass are simply to ensure that there is a color
and style
that you like
and that fits your decor.
Feel free to mix two or more colors to create your own custom blend and get
creative with it!
It's important to note that fire glass
is non combustible
and it's not what is producing the flames in your fireplace.
Actually,
a natural gas or propane fire pit burner or fireplace burner
is required
for use with fire glass. As the gas spreads through the burner ports in
this burner
it comes to the top of the fire glass and that is ignited by maybe a spark
a lighter flame or match flame or possibly another ignition source, depending on
your fireplace.
That's what's producing the flames. It's the burning of the natural gas or
propane fuel.
Although fire glass can be used in many non-vented
and vented fire pits or fireplaces,
it's important to realize that not every fire pit or fireplace can use the fire glass
