When working with zippers we have a special foot on the machine letter E that you can
use. Now, notice this foot has tow places you can attach it to the machine. So depending
on which side of the zipper you're working on. By the way, I love zipper that are much
longer than my project. I can always cut them off and make them fit. So, right now I need
to have this foot be attached on the left side so when I place it down next to my zipper
I can be right close to the teeth. Then I can move my needle position as close as I
need it to be and that is all you need to have it ready to sew. We can just go ahead
and keep the teeth running right close to the foot and away we go.
Now, next what you'd want to do is press this so it will be nice and flat to this side of
it and then we can go ahead. Now, this time we need to be a little bit closer to this
side of the zipper so we can just move the foot over to the other side and then move
our needle position so we're much closer to the other part of it. There we go. Press that
in and we'll just kind of tap that two times so we can get it lined up and positioned exactly
where we need the stitches to be and then just let that foot follow along the edge of
your zipper and everybody stays where they need to be with a nice perfect straight stitch
all the way down the side.
Now, when you go to sew the other side in place all you have to do is see which direction
you're going. So here, I always like to make sure my zippers on the top so as I place this
here then I'm going to go ahead and bring the foot back to the other side and the needle
back to the other side. So, other direction, bring it as close as you can to the zipper
and then go ahead and stitch one more time and repeat and you'll have a perfectly placed
fabric next to your zipper.
