In the sixteenth and seventeenth century, in Germany,
it used to be
a privileged to bake gingerbread. You used to have a special license and unless you
had this whole license, you were not allowed to bake gingerbread.
I'm Chris and I'm here in the exhibition kitchen, inside the exhibit Our Global
Kitchen.
This week and next week we're actually demonstrating gingerbread houses
holiday cookies and other treats. So we'll be going over candy canes and marshmallows
as well as how to make gingerbread and how to make icing.
We like to include a little bit of a history lesson because you really aren't
able to appreciate
what you're enjoying until you know where it comes from.
Every person that comes in here really tends to bring their own experiences
with them and we end up learning things as well.
One of the greatest parts about this kitchen is, not only do you get to see all
these beautiful creations that we're making here,
but you also get to taste them.
Some of the other upcoming weeks are going to be sections on healthy
eating,
coffee, tea, and my personal favorite chocolate.
So lots of exciting things to come.
