In this movie we are going to kind of combine a lot of the shortcuts we have
learned so far already and we are going to learn tons more. Now I have here
this project and my project is just a mess. I have all these random clips all
over the place. I have two instances this fenced out clip. I thought I wanted
to start with this and now I think I wanted to be at the end.
So I am just going to delete this layer, but that leaves me with nothing at the
start. Now I want this fat little man clip to play first I am going to select
this layer and I am going use the keyboard shortcut Alt or Option+Home. So
Alt+Home will take the current layer and make its end point the first frame.
Likewise, if I want to end my Comp with this fenced out clip I could hold Alt
or Option+End to jump that clips outpoint to the end of my Comp.
Now here is where it gets cool. Often times when I have these projects where I
have these huge gaps and this can be kind of annoying. So let me show you a way
to kind of close in these gaps a little bit. I am going to select fat little
man by hitting Ctrl+Down arrow couple of times. Next, I am going to hit the
letter O to the jump to the out point of that clip and see the super sweet
newscaster guy. Then I am going to hit Ctrl+Up arrow one more time to select
the mainstream ninja clip. Now I am going to type the left bracket key.
The left bracket key will jump this layer's end point to the Current Time
Indicator and now I have created a seamless gap between these two clips. Now
let me undo that. Another way that we can do this if you want to drag the layer,
you will notice that it doesn't actually jump to where the CTI is. So it's
really easy to get this to be like a frame off, which is really bad.
So if you hold the Shift key while you are dragging, it turns on After Effects'
Snap feature and this layer will just kind of snap to the CTI. Now I am just
going to hit O to the jump to that layer's outpoint. Ctrl+Up arrow to select
the next layer, left bracket to make that layer jump there. I am going to hit O
to jump to the outpoint of that layer and to make that the end of the Work Area
and tying it all together. Right- click on the Work Area bar and select Trim
Comp To Work Area. Our Comp is now not a mess. All put together
very quickly and easily with these amazing navigational shortcuts.
