I'm Joe Pazarena from Green Jobs Academy at Bucks County
Community College.
I'm the Grant Coordinator in charge of the weatherization program.
Weatherization
is an upcoming field. It is basically
air sealing and insulating your home
to save energy. We teach you how to insulate attics, caulk windows and doors, assess the building airflow in your house and also
the air quality.
All these courses are free to anyone who applies.
It's a great program and a great opportunity.
We also have
multiple locations, you can go to
any location and we have
multiple schedules
to try and coordinate
so you would flow right through the courses.
The first class takes about forty hours, the Install Class.
The Crew Chief class is approximately 52 hours and the BPI class is approximately 40 hours.
BPI stands for Building Performance Institute. That's going to be the
nationally recognized
standards for weatherization throughout the United States. So if you
complete all the classes
you'll have approximately five or six certifications
which would be great for your resume
in pursuing a job in weatherization.
Now after you complete
all three courses and you graduate
then you would be eligible to be an energy auditor
, you could be the Crew Chief or installer. Many contractors start as an installer
and quickly move up as Crew Chief and ultimately an energy auditor.
This program
is unbelievable, it's
funded by the Department of Energy
and it is intended to create jobs and also save energy at the same time.
