Hello everyone, this is Max and welcome for this Dota 2’s character introduction video.
Today we’re gonna talk about someone who knows what you did last summer,
I'm referring to Pudge aka the Butcher.
Pudge is a very effective strength ganker hero.
His ability to isolate his team mates and to kill them quickly makes him one of the best assassins of the whole game.
Moreover, his passive will make him very tanky during late game.
He is a really fun hero, but needs some training to be played properly,
which is why we don’t recommend him for the beginners.
Be persistent, make hooks in chain on the battlefield and you will become addicted to this fat meatball.
Be careful, Pudge doesn’t provide halal meat, only...
Pudge’s first spell is Meat Hook.
Pudge launches his hook in the chosen direction up to 1300 range and drags the victim back to him.
If the target is an enemy, it will be mini stunned and take up to 360 pure damage.
If the target is an ally, it will only be dragged to Pudge.
The hook goes through trees, buildings as well as siege creeps, it is possible to catch invisible units though.
This spell is Pudge’s signature skill : it is your main damage source at the beginning of the game
and its capacity to isolate an opponent makes it one of the best ganking spells of the game.
Rot is the Butcher’s second skill.
Pudge releases a toxic cloud around him that slows enemies’ movement speed by 20%
and deal up to 110 damage per second to enemies in the AoE and Pudge himself.
This spell has no mana cost and no cooldown,
it is a good way to keep your target close and to deal good damage during team fights.
This ability also allows you to commit suicide.
This way, surrounding enemies earn less xp, no gold and don’t interrupt your killing spree.
His third spell is Flesh Heap.
It’s a passive ability increasing your magic resistance up to 16%
and granting you with a permanent strength bonus based on the number of enemy heroes who died next to Pudge.
For every hero dying in a 450 AoE around Pudge, he will earn up to 1.8 strength points.
This spell makes you a real HP stacker during the end game and will be a good way to tank during teamfights.
Pudge’s ultimate is Dismember.
It is a single target ability that will stun a hero during 3 seconds
or a creep during 6 seconds and deal up to 175 damage per second.
Dismember is a channeling spell, meaning that Pudge will be unable to do anything during its whole duration.
Be aware that a stun or a silence will stop this spell if it is ongoing.
Rot however, can be activated during the ultimate to deal even more damage.
Moreover, this ability can be improved by the Aghanim’s Scepter.
It will then deal ¾ of your strength as bonus damage per second and will heal you by the total of inflicted damage.
Let's talk about the spell order now!
At level 1, take Rot, because its slow is perfect to try to make a quick first blood.
Then take your Meat Hook at level 2 and 3, your Rot at level 4 and your Hook again at level 5.
Your hook is then level 3, has a good range, and deal pretty good damage.
Of course, take your Ultimate once level 6 then upgrade your Hook to max level,
then your Rot and Flesh Heap last.
Since your passive is retroactive, it is not necessary to upgrade it before the level 10.
Pudge is a ganker that can become a tank during late game, so you have to stuff him accordingly.
Pudge doesn’t depend on items though, so he can be really useful even with only a few items.
Moreover, Pudge accumulates gold thanks to his kills more than with his farm, privilege ganks to fill your purse.
At level 1, Pudge has really low armor, and being a melee fighter, he is really vulnerable to harass.
Take 2 Gauntlets of Strength, a Healing Salve, a set of Tangos, a Clarity Potion and an Iron Branch.
You can also take 3 Iron Branches, 2 Healing Salves, 2 sets of Tangos and a Clarity Potion
if you want to play more aggressive thanks to Rot.
Buy your Boots of Speed as soon as possible
that you will upgrade into Arcane Boots to have a mana regeneration and a bigger reserve,
or into Phase Boots that will allow you to chase more easily your opponents and increase your auto attacks damage.
If you chose to build those, buying a Bottle will be a good way to recover health and mana between two ganks.
If you started the game with 2 Gauntlets of Strength, upgrade these into an Urn of Shadows.
Then, take a Hood of Defiance that will allow you to tank even more magical damage, especially your Rot.
You can upgrade it into a Pipe of Insight later if your team needs it.
If you’re facing enemies dealing a lot of physical damage,
you can build a Vanguard, that will give you some tanking and health points.
A Blademail is also a good option for Pudge
since it will increase his armor and that its active will send back 100% of damage inflicted to you.
A good mobility and a great placement are essential for Pudge, it is why Force Staff is an excellent choice.
Its active will be perfect to escape but also to choose your spot craftily to hook.
Moreover, Force Staff is a good substitution to Blink Dagger, which you can’t buy with Pudge.
During late game, the Aghanim’s Scepter will make you a huge damage dealer thanks to your ultimate
and a good way to heal easily.
You can also sel your boots to take Boots of Travel and increase your mobility.
Some tanking items are also strongly recommended:
a Shiva’s Guard will fill Pudge’s lack of armor and give him an additional slow,
Black King Bar is the perfect way to launch your ultimate without taking risks
and to wander with Rot activated without any trouble.
Finally, Heart of Tarrasque will improve significantly your total health points and strength.
There it is, it’s over for Pudge!
