Hi, I'm Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental Planning Initiatives
with the City of Greater Sudbury, and this is EarthCare Minute.
Did you know there are over 700 kilometers of pipes for wastewater
collection
in Greater Sudbury. After wastewater leaves our homes,
it's sent through a series of pumps on its way to the wastewater treatment plant.
A clogged pipe or pump
means that sewage may back up into homes or be released
into the environment. Flushing garbage is a major cause.
Things like floss, wet wipes, cotton swabs,
personal hygiene products, and diaper inserts should always go into the
garbage,
not the toilet. Even products labeled as flushable
should not be put down the toilet. Flushing the non flushables
doesn't pay. You could get stuck with a costly repair bill
or be charged under the City's Sewer Use By-law. Help do your part to keep our
wastewater system functioning properly.
EarthCare Minute. One minute is all it takes.
Brought to you by the City of Greater Sudbury.
