MY BIRD TREAT RECIPE: I live with wild birds full time (for 9 years
I've done little else). Peanut butter is excellent food for wild birds (don't believe the myths
that it
is bad for them). Get natural peanut butter with zero additives. NEVER
use lard or vegetable shortening! Use melted beef fat and add melted NATURAL peanut butter to that.
If you want every bird within a 20 mile radius of your house, add dry uncooked oatmeal to
the melted beef fat
and natural peanut butter mixture. Mix thoroughly so that
the dry oatmeal absorbs the liquid evenly. Be sure to add the dry oatmeal gradually,
stirring it in bit by bit so that you can gage you haven't added to much dry oatmeal, otherwise there won't be
enough liquid to SATURATE the oatmeal. During nesting season, adults feed this to babies
as a soft nutritionally dense starter food. In winter, this oatmeal mixture has incredible
warming power and energy-giving nutrition necessary in cold weather. Once you start,
continue, otherwise your birds hearts will be broken!
