My name is João Pita and I am the community’s coordinator for Tapagem.
There is a great need.
There is a lot of difficulty because there isn’t someone who can help us or guide us.
Even though the Fundação Esperança (CBO) help us by treating us giving us medication;
They aren’t able yet to help us treat our water.
This is a need that is of great interest to our community.
Physical help is easy to find especially because of everyone’s interest in the project.
And even financially we can contibute.
Even though we come from humble backgrounds and there isn’t a lot financial resources, but we will contribute the best we can.
A rough estimate is that each family could give R$20 BRL.
We would be more than willing to receive any group for any number of days. What is in our reach to supply, we will do our best to contribute.
Would you mind sharing with us what are some of the concerns your community shares in regards to the quality water?
There are so many concerns.
Even with the naked eye we can identify some of the bactéria and contaminates.
We call them “Hammers”.
Our water is so contaminated.
There are so many kinds and we can even see them just by looking with out own eyes.
I first come into contact with the community 15 years ago during a ***/AIDS intervention.
To meet the needs of the community, our organization started a project for basic health attention.
This project started in 2003.
We have been working over time in the community but we are unable to make changes in the way they treat water.
This is due to the lack of funds as we only have enough funding to provide basic treatments.
Because of our funding we are only able to try and meet these needs by providing basic health education lectures.
We identified various types of worms and our patients receive medication every 6 months.
If we were able prevent these parasites from being consumed,
We would be able to allocate our financial resources to treating more serious illnesses.
