slowly there's a story in the new york times and you know
i don't know if i believe this but supposedly
according to
jeremy peters in the new york times
democrats say that harry reid the majority leader in recent days has been
trying to gauge whether there's sufficient support among democrats to
force a rule change that would limit the filibuster on presidential nominees
let me tell you why i'm cynical about this story because i've been married for
a lot loaning you have a respected
uh... this sounds to me like harry reid is a sort of like china float the threat
out there too
republicans in the senate
that we will push ahead with the um...
nuclear option
and and change the the threshold needed to
to confirm
early presidential nominees if you guys don't get with the program because
they're
you know that
they won't day-to-day essentially seem like they're just refuses
to even out lower for a vote on any a_p_a_ head
uh... they're refusing to allow for any vote on any secretary of labor never
mind the consumer financial protection bureau that they seem to be just
pursuing a strategy of
we are just not block with you know better
people today there was a uh... hearing on the i_r_s_ and uh...
the republicans had to be worked on something like that
you campfire any um... obama appointees because he hasn't appointed anybody
he doesn't have a confirm and none of them are his appointees he's just
basically choosing someone to move up in the agency because he doesn't have any
other appointees
do you really think that we're gonna see any type of filibuster reform
particularly now
as opposed to doing it on the on the day that the senate we organizes its rule
ols and you wouldn't have this sort of nuclear option specter
now i don't think it's going to happen i think a reduced flailing in the wind pop
art best fantastic remarks when the time to do this
was at the beginning of the new static out what the president has just been
reelected and there was a very strong case to be made that there had been been
uh... president level of republican destruction how that if the president
wanted you to anything it'd second-term inaccurate form the filibuster out
nothing i was getting kicked out and read for some reason if he has moldable
times up got baited into believing mix mcconnell's of but there are two ways to
look at what is that uh... harry reid is bit naive
in trusting admits mcardle or you can believe it harry never really water to
reform the filibuster
uh... in the first place in it and he's just use the whole lot of excuses
i had why he couldn't to it uh... authority and quiet out to believe
uh... that one because i mean there there really is no
way that you can
truck the republicans in good faith given the fact they filibustered
everything i mean you have a situations where you have
judges
who have had to wait for two or three years
you finally get
dominated if if i were a lot about either confirmed no i did not take
i mean technically caterpillar support they've been targeted by republican
senators
and they're just there either forced to wait ordered everything get a vote and
put it happened over and over and over again
darlene bogdan only controversial amazed non-controversial nominees are even
getting
of votes in the center right now and and all harry can promises
there's going to be votes on people i'll like the e_p_a_ nominee uh... like uh...
the head of the labor department um... compress but he can't promise that any
of these nominees will pass because he knows the republicans are in a
filibuster it so i mean ilk if he had finally serious about it he had to be
michael willing to actually do it willing terrific potentially a calamity
of the fact that
to pulled everything off uh... otherwise you know republicans are going to take
answers here is that they go ahead and do it knowing that he will fall through
i think
i got i think that were well past the time where harry reid's bluffs
carry anyway
i mean he's especially now with the president carter weakened political
position after last week i mean
it was fee and i think in in the end the present will be fired loud and that
they'll be from northern and it'll be okay i don't think you can overcome it
i don't think it's gonna be like bushwick iraq and katrina where you know
in iraq we had thousand of americans die in orkut re no we had a great american
city flooded i mean it's completely absurd uh... comparison uh... to make
but certainly now adopted the back scott paper for harry reid to be trying to
reform the filibuster i mean i think
it's all very relevant time for him to do with at obstruction just keeps
getting worse but from a political standpoint uh... it would've been a lot
better if you try to do it a few months ago
