Yo whatup this is -----DASH----- a.k.a. DaDASHDevil from the Netherlands.
And this is my Water Drop Tutorial I promised to make...
...a very long time ago for humanbeatbox.com and beatbox.be.
The Water Drop... what is it? It is the sound...
...of a water drop falling in water.
The technique sounds a bit like this when I do it.
It might be a bit overpowered on this microphone...
...because I still have this sexy desktop microphone.
If it's overpowered I'm sorry, but it sounds like this.
I learned it from my father.
He was able to do it by himself, I figured it out myself later.
It's pretty easy to do if you can whistle.
If you can whistle you have an advantage over people who cannot.
In whistling you can change the pitch by changing the 'position' of your throat.
If you whistle...
You can see my throat moving, just like I said in the Helicopter Clickroll Tutorial.
Then I also sucked in air into my mouth.
I use my throat to pull the air in.
Now I use my throat to change the size of my mouth...
...so the pitch of the whistle changes.
I also use my tongue to change the size of my mouth.
If you want to do the Water Drop...
...then you have to be able to do something like this sound.
Now you will probably understand why whistlers have an advantage...
...because it's quite similar to whistling.
It doesn't use any lungs, exactly like the click roll.
Put your lips in an o-shape, quite small.
Then you suck in air with your throat.
So don't use your lungs. You can breathe while doing it.
It sounds like this.
While breathing...
You can also hum while doing it.
Well, the sound is not so defined while I'm also humming.
But hopefully you get the point.
If you want to make it a real Water Drop...
...you have to add some effects.
You have to change the pitch.
This is all outwards.
The size of your mouth is large to start with.
How do you say it... so the sound is low.
And you change the pitch from low to high.
Like whistling...
You hear it's quite difficult to do a long time.
Make sure your lips are wet.
When your lips are dry it's very hard to make that...
...that high pitched sound.
If you want to make it sound like a real falling water drop...
...then there should be an impact sound.
That's what I do by flicking my finger against my cheek.
It's this sound...
You can also change the pitch.
I use that pitch.
And then I add this after it.
Timing is crucial here.
If you do it too early it will sound like a small drop.
When you do it too late...
...it sounds like a very big drop or something.
You have to experiment a bit yourself for the right timing.
If you get it right, it will sound like a pretty good water drop.
Pretty realistic.
My cousin told me once he did the sound in class...
...and his teacher went to the sink to close it.
Because he thought it was running.
I don't know if it's a *** story but you never know.
It can be pretty realistic, but that's what all beatboxers should know.
I think this is it... oh, one more thing.
I got questions about putting this into a beat.
Actually I don't know how to put it in a beat, I never tried.
But I heard someone else who could do it.
So it is possible. Experiment yourself.
I don't use this technique too often in beatboxing.
It's just a funny sound effect to make fun with people.
Just like all the strange sounds you can make with your mouth.
OK, if you have any questions just ask me.
I hope this was a bit clear tutorial.
Another one from -----DASH----- a.k.a. DaDASHDevil from the Netherlands.
And goodbye, see you soon.
