ZADI: Hey guys it's Zadi.
EARNEST: And Earnest.
ZADI: And it's Saturday.
A lot happened this week we had--
EARNEST: We had the stand-off in Ukraine.
ZADI: Hover-boards.
EARNEST: The wildest party on earth.
ZADI: But the thing that everyone
loved the most, the thing that you wanted more of was--
EARNEST: 21 K-POP
ZADI: All right, we're going to talk about K-POP
That's what we're going to do.
Let's go.
EARNEST: Let's do it.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
ALI: Girl's Generation is the biggest all-female K-POP group.
They just released the video for their new single "Mr. Mr.,"
and it got over six million views in four days.
[MUSIC - GIRL'S GENERATION, "MR. MR."]
ALI: You might recognize these ladies from last year's YouTube
Music Awards, where they won Video of the Year
in a huge upset.
They beat out everybody-- Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus,
Macklemore, and One Direction.
Prepare for the Girl's Generation invasion.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
EARNEST: My first exposure to K-POP
came back in 2008 when I was at a salon in Korea-town
with my wife.
I saw the Wonder Girls on a TV screen,
and it was love at first sight.
This is the earliest official upload of a K-POP video
that we could find-- January 28, 2008.
[MUSIC - WONDER GIRLS, "TELL ME"]
EARNEST: I challenge you to find an earlier one than this.
Just remember, it's got to be an official music video upload.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
CARLY: Dance is a huge part of the K-POP experience.
And when Taeyang-- who is part of the group Big ***--
which is one of the biggest groups in K-POP,
just so you know.
When he released his new solo single,
he decided to release this dance video too.
It nearly broke the internet.
It has 17 million views and it's absolutely amazing.
[MUSIC - TAEYANG, "RINGA LINGA TAEKWONDO"]
CARLY: One of the amazing things that K-POP fans have started
doing is making their own dance covers to their favorite songs.
This is my personal favorite one for "Ringa Linga"
It was done by a taekwondo group and it's life-changing.
They flip across the room the entire video.
[MUSIC - TAEYANG, "RINGA LINGA TAEKWONDO"]
CARLY: I think if I quit this job
and started dedicating myself to dance 24 hours a day,
I could probably learn this routine 27 years from now.
I've got some thinking to do.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
ALEX: Look, I like K-POP-- K-POP is good and all,
but you know what's great?
Fan reactions to K-POP.
Look at this.
There's more emotion in this woman's face
watching the video, than I have in my entire body.
What?
This is heaven.
What?
FEMALE SPEAKER: God, don't do this to me.
[SCREAM]
FEMALE SPEAKER: I'm sorry.
This is too much for me.
I don't know what to do with myself.
Oh, God.
ALEX: Bye, you feel better.
You don't cry over them.
FEMALE SPEAKER: I'm not crying, I'm just dying.
ALEX: I totally get this.
I used to watch "Ninja Turtles" like this.
Maybe you're not into watching people react to K-POP videos.
But maybe you're into watching people
react to the lack of K-POP videos.
JILLIAN NADIAK: I want to dance really bad.
But I'm not freaking out.
I think it would be kind of-- I think
I would have a problem if I was freaking out right now.
ALEX: I didn't think she was going to make it, and she did.
Oops spoiler.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
ZADI: All right.
What do we go out on Earnest?
EARNEST: We've got two more videos.
First, you can't talk about K-POP
without talking about the biggest
YouTube video of all time.
ZADI: [GASP]
[MUSIC - PSY, "GANGNAM STYLE"]
ZADI: So "Gangnam Style" has almost a billion
more views than any other video on YouTube.
EARNEST: It's had two billion views.
That is two Justin Biebers.
He just hit a billion with "Baby."
So it's two Justin Beibers.
ZADI: That's crazy.
One Psy equals two Justin Biebers.
EARNEST: However, I think I found the video that
should be the next "Gangnam Style."
ZADI: No, you didn't.
EARNEST: I did.
It's "Beep" by Park Ji Yoon.
[MUSIC - PARK JI YOON, "BEEP"]
ZADI: I am sorry I ever doubted you.
EARNEST: Well, I have been listening
to this music for five years, so--
ZADI: OK, point noted.
And if you want more K-POP, we've
got a playlist that we put together for you.
EARNEST: If you know a video that you think
should be the next "Gangam Style"
let us know in the comments with the #youtubenation.
ZADI: And I kind of want to listen to a little bit more
"Beep."
EARNEST: So play us out Park Ji Yoon.
[MUSIC - PARK JI YOON, "BEEP"]
