>>ANCHOR: Dodgeballs will be flying at RIT this weekend. Students hope to break a world
record, with more than 2,000 players. News 8's Caroline Tucker says they're taking this
game seriously at RIT.
>>BRIAN TAYLOR: Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.
>>REPORTER: It's some dodgeball basics. Basics that might put RIT on the world-record map.
>>MICHAEL PIGGOTT: We've got 1,800 people registered. We need to beat the record over
2012. We're trying to get 2,500 people to officially smash it.
>>REPORTER: It's a huge challenge, one that the University of Alberta in Canada broke
the record in 2010. RIT’s dodgeball club and a campus fraternity have teamed up. They
say they are taking the title.
>>LEXI LEVINE: We saw a YouTube video and now it's actually happening.
>>BRIAN TAYLOR: It would show that we are the best club on campus, I mean we are breaking
records here. You don't see any other clubs doing that.
>>REPORTER: On Sunday, it;s going to take 650 dodge balls just to make this world-record
attempt. The current world record holders are challenging students at RIT.
>>We've been tracking your guys' efforts down at RIT and we're not going to lie. Don't have
a whole lot of confidence in you guys 'smashing' that world record right now.
>>REPORTER: Nothing is about to scare these dodgeballers.
>>MICHAEL PIGGOTT: You just motivated people, so thank you, Alberta.
>>ROSS KAHN: I think they are just nervous, that their record is at stake, because we
are going to get it on Sunday.
>>REPORTER: Anyone over age 18 in the community can come and play ball at RIT's campus on
Sunday. This is one game where every player counts.
>>ROSS KAHN: I am excited for that opening whistle seeing everyone launch dodgeballs
it will be crazy.
>>REPORTER: Caroline Tucker, News 8.
>>ANCHOR: Again, you're invited to join in the fun. It's happening at RIT’s Gordon
Field House on Sunday. It starts at noon and run until 4. And if you don't want to be hit
by flying dodgeballs, they also need witnesses to verify the record. They can't be associated
with RIT. You can find out all the information on our website, Rochesterhomepage.net.
