I was diagnosed with diabetes about ten years ago and it came about because I had a blood
test and that showed up that I was a diabetic. I didn't even think I had diabetes til the
blood test came back and I got a bit of a shock and I thought ah well here we go old
age it's started to roll in and what could you do. Go on a diet or get on the medication
or you've just got to take it as it comes haven't its a disease, there's no cure. You
got to live with it. I was rather upset because you know you've got to go on this diet, and
you're not allowed this and you're not allowed that. You've got to cut down on your food,
it's small portions. You've got to take your blood glucose everyday. From what the dietitians
tell me if I lose weight and keep up my exercise and diet she could bring my diabetes down
to practically nothing. So I've got to get motivated to get off and start doing it. Well
I've never ever been a person to exercise until I got this disease and I thought right!
I'm going to the gym and I started off wonderfully and then it sort of tinkered out a little
bit then I'd get guilty and go back for another couple of months and it taper out a bit. My
advice to new diabetics would be well what can you do you've just got to look after yourself
and do your exercise and eat properly and what more can you do. To try and stave off
that medication part.
