Hello and welcome to Safety Restore's "How-To" video series. My name is Sean, and today I'll
be showing you how to test for locked and blown seat belt tensioners and buckles. Well
your vehicle has probably been in an accident, airbag light is on pointing to a faulty seat
belt. Best way to determine which seat belt is blown, is with a scan tool. If you don't
have a scan tool - not a problem. We'll be showing you can easy way how you can manually
test for yourself at home. We'll start off by removing the driver side retractor. If
you don't know how to do this, we have a video explaining how. Easy way to test if the seat
belt is blown, is by simply shaking it. If you hear it rattle, like this one, that absolutely
means it's blown. Now if you don't, it does not necessary mean that your seat belt is
not faulty. We'll be showing you how to test the resistance. This part is tricky, so pay
attention. For this you will need a multi-mter, and a pair of small sensitive pliers. Locate
the plug on the seat belt. On this seat belt, we see it here. First we need to remove the
plastic housing. Without doing so, you will not have a correct reading. Use the pliers
to carefully remove the plastic housing. Set the volt-meter to the 200 Ohms setting, and
connect the 2 pins directly without touching anything around. A good reading is between
2 - 3 Ohms. If your reading is anywhere below or above that, you can be sure the seat belt
is bad. If the reading is jumping around, it's bad as well and needs to be repaired.
Moving on to buckle pre-tensionners. Keep in mind, 75% of vehicles do not come equipped
with buckle pre-tensioners. An example of a blown buckle, as we can see here: It has
been pulled in. Now let's compare that with one that hasn't been exploded. Well this concludes
the Safety Restore's "How-To" video series: "How-To test for locked seat belt pre-tensioners
and buckles." My name is Sean, from Safety Restore. Your certified source for airbag
module reset services and seat belt repairs. I hope you have learned something today. I
