we’re moving to 60 college football programs in the near future so we’re very, very excited . 1:09:47 Talley Our goal would be to have every college football program in the country be involved with us. 3:45:15 Coach London: I just wanted to bring the awareness to people, players, anyone who would listen that there’s a significant need for, people and particularly people of color. It, it’s very rare and it’s hard to find donors or, or people that match
Well we came up with the name Get in the Game and Save a Life and what would be more appropriate than that, Get in the Game and Save a Life. Don’t be just a bystander, don’t be sitting around, get in the game with us.
I became a part of the registry when my football team, we started doing the marrow donation process, as part of our community service,
A year later, they called me up and said listen you’re a match. 2:20:33 The future for that 2-year old little boy that I saved, hopefully is, is long and healthy. Hopefully, he gets to do everything that I was able to do as a kid, you know with no health problems and hopefully grows up, play football, be a strong guy like me Music
It does make me feel good about my college, cause Wagner College is always giving back to its community and this marrow thing is just one more, you know one more building block on how we affect the community.
We, we created a playbook for our student athletes and every February we introduce it to them and it’s early April is when we actually have the drive. So for them, they get a chance to divide up the jobs, take responsibility. Coach Talley 1:12:25 (note: we’ll have to take out several words in his original comments – please follow the words in the script) It’s really simple to setup a drive. The first thing you have to do is make sure that your volunteers are ready to go out and spread the word. The actual day of the testing is simple. It’s a simple cheek swab, fill out some forms, most people are in and out in 20 minutes and you know it’s really not that hard. Music Coach Talley: 1:20:02 We’re always looking for things to pull our team together, to be closer, to be more of a football family and I don’t think anything has been more important than our marrow drives every year, 3:51:15 Being involved with a cause like this is something that people can look up to and say you know what, that guys making a difference off the field Music transition Talley: that guy’s a real hero. He’s a hero in my eyes and I don’t have any heroes.
You have to be a part of it. You know I mean there’s too many positives and there is no negative. 1:51:40 when you can get one person to say you know I get it and then they have a chance to save someone else’s life, then that’s what it’s all about.
