Holy Orders
Greetings! I'm Tomislav Roskaric, parish priest here at Mala Nedelja.
And this is the 3rd of 7 videos that I will be making on the Sacraments
visible signs of invisible grace.
Today I'm going to tell you something about the Holy Orders
or as we call it: Priestly Consecration.
But as this sacrament includes also deacons and bishops,
I will name it simply "Holy Order" or "Ordination"
The special characteristic of the Holy Order is its triality
because it has three levels all going back to the early Church:
so there are deacons, priest and bishops.
If I simplify the whole subject: deacons have a ministry of service.
Priests focus on God's Word and Sacraments,
while bishops have a ministry of oversight, because they're hierarchically superior to deacons and priests.
So what exactly is the purpose of Holy Order?
You see the Church sets the ordained person in the middle of the community
Why? To draw the whole Church to serve God more efficiently.
In order to become a priest he must make certain vows
different for each level of the sacrament,
this happens in a special kind of ritual,
the wise men also have to approve the candidate
and the ordination happens when the bishop lays his hands on the head of the ordinator.
Something quite special happens in that moment.
Every sacrament has its' special moment
when something great, mysterious, Godly happens.
but Holy Order is also a long process of study and spiritual formation.
Wait the minute. What is today's color?
Oh, a white one!
Ordained deacon, priest, bishop is a kind of icon in a spiritual sense
a symbol of God's presence and also a symbol of the Church.
This doesn't mean that the priest is holier than anyone else
yet he's expected to live as an example to others to invite them to virtuous life.
You know being a priest is more than a full time job, it's a life job, a vocation.
but all of this wouldn't have any meaning without the common priesthood of all the baptized in the Church.
And of course the Grace of the Holy Ghost.
Until next time: All best and God be with you!
Does God call you?
