Welcome to the filament profile series
in these videos we're showcasing properties and applications for the many
materials you can print with the LuzBot 3D printer
The filament highlighted in this video is called HIPS
a polymer otherwise known as high impact polystyrene
Before starting your print we recommend applying it glue stick to your printer
bed before warming it
to ensure your object doesn't come off the bed during printing
For optimum HIPS print quality we recommend a nozzle temperature of
220 to 230 degrees Celsius
and a bed temperature at 50 to 60 degrees Celsius
HIPS is increasingly popular in the 3D printing community
Known for its dimensional stability and low material cost
it's ideal for low strength structural applications and prototyping
HIPS can also be glued and painted with acrylic paint once the print is finished
making it a great material for models props, and costumes
Today we're putting a quadcopter rotor protector
there will be strong and stable enough to withstand flight
Default configurations make it faster easier to use your LulzBot
