Towards the end of winter it is advisable to prune fruit trees
This is done in a more vigorous way in juveniles, for which pruning will also seek to control development
while for older specimens you only clean the canopy and thin out the thicker branches
First of all it is necessary to remove all branches that are weak, extremely thin, or damaged by bad weather or disease
and at the same time we try to prune the densest parts of the foliage, with branches that are twisted or too numerous
As these plants produce fruit in the spring that you will also want to collect, you should try to bring the canopy of fruit trees to a small size so that the development is compact and easy to reach
and then try to remove any parts of the branch system that are growing too high, so as to keep the majority of the fruits on the more accessible branches
To keep the plant well balanced you can also shorten branches that are elongated or excessively developed
and also act on the outer branches, by removing or shortening the secondary branches that tend to have excessive development
so as to give a symmetrical and well balanced shape to the canopy of foliage
