Hi this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. April is National Distracted Driving
Awareness Month. The message is that distracted driving is deadly driving. And the Kentucky
Office of Highway Safety is taking that message to schools around Kentucky this month with
its Distracted Driving Simulator. This video shows students using the simulator at Morehead
State University and Western Kentucky University. The students can text and talk on a cell phone
while trying to obey the rules of the road on the simulator’s screens. The Simulator
gives students some exposure to the dangers of distracted driving, without actually putting
them at risk. While distracted drivers come in all ages, most of the Distracted Driving
Simulator events are held at high schools. According to the National Highway Transportation
Safety Administration, inexperienced drivers under the age of 20 have the highest proportion
of distraction-related fatal crashes. This has been your KYTC minute. Visit transportation.ky.gov
every Thursday for updated information.
