My name is Yaqin Zuo,
I’m from China,
I work in international cooperation.
I’m studying French in Montréal.
I’m an English teacher in China
at a university in the Shandong province.
I work as an interpreter
for the Shandong Ministry of Education.
I’m in Québec because there are exchanges,
because Québec and Shandong are twinned provinces.
I will tell you about China.
Do you know where China is?
My boss asked me to learn French
to promote exchanges between the two provinces.
Montréal is an international city,
it’s vibrant, many people are bilingual,
It’s been a surprise for me, because in China,
not many people are bilingual.
I got such a warm welcome
by so many nice people,
everyone is so generous.
I have a lot of Québécois friends,
others come from all over the world.
I love to walk along the St. Lawrence River.
I play chess a lot.
I helped the Marguerite-Bourgeoys school board
translate its website into Mandarin.
Of course, it takes time,
it’s hard to learn a language,
the thinking process in Mandarin is totally different.
In French, the capital of China is Pékin
but in English it’s Beijing,
and in Mandarin, it’s also called Beijing.
Thank you very much.
I study six hours a day,
I study a lot, I work hard,
but I learn quickly!
