Korea has taken another step toward developing its first completely homegrown rocket, slated
for completion in six years. Korea's space agency and the science ministry
announced Tuesday that ground combustion tests... for what will be the third-stage engine of
its indigenous space launch vehicle were conducted successfully at a newly-built test facility
at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeollanam-do
province. The seven-ton thrust engine passed five separate
combustion tests designed to check both the fuel injection system and engine stability.
Korea became the 13th country to launch a space rocket from its own soil in January
last year when it launched the Naro rocket, whose first stage was built by Russian scientists.
