The Ontario Health Study celebrated its second anniversary on September 29th.
These last two years have been incredibly exciting.
Since the Study launched, more than 225,000 of you have completed our online questionnaire.
Researchers are already using your valuable health information in a number of studies.
We have also opened our first Assessment Centre, which is where I am today.
Participants who have completed the online questionnaire will be invited to visit the Assessment Centre
if they live in the greater Toronto area.
The opening of the Assessment Centre is important because
it gives health researchers access to physical data in addition to your questionnaire responses.
Measurements performed at the Assessment Centre
include tests of your grip strength, blood pressure and heart and lung function.
You may also provide a blood sample at the Assessment Centre.
Researchers will study this blood sample in combination with information
you have provided about your diet, lifestyle and family history.
Having access to detailed health data will help researchers
as they look for the reasons some people develop disease and others stay healthy.
After your visit, you will receive a report
giving you the results of your physical measurements and blood tests.
For those of you who live in other parts of Ontario
and are unable to visit the Assessment Centre, you won’t be left out.
We will soon be announcing a way for you to contribute a blood sample to the Study as well.
