Hi, I am Dr Richard Lipman, Miami Endocrinologist and weight loss physician. This the second
of a three part series on how your thyroid gland controls your metabolism and the burning
of food and how dysfunction can cause unintended weight gain or difficulty loosing weight.
In the first part of this series I reviewed the function of the thyroid gland, the hormones
it makes and how it controls our metabolism as well as many organs in the body. In the
2nd part, I will show you the signs and symptoms of a low thyroid. In the 3rd part, I will
show you some simple tests you can do at home. Stay tuned to the end of this video for the bonus feature.
To remind you, the thyroid gland is gland sitting in the middle of you neck, shaped
like a bowtie, most of the time, most people are unable even to feel it. If you think it
may be enlarged or you feel as lump, check with your doctor, it takes seconds to check
it out.
Here you see how the thyroid hormone travels all over the body, effecting just about every
organ.
If you have a slow or under active thyroid here are some of the things you should look
for:
Here is a detailed list of all of the symptoms, in the bonus section you will have a chance
to download the slide in check list format,--the important symptoms are weight gain or failure
to lose weight, fatigue, hair and skin change--if you suspect this problem take a look at the 3rd part of this series
tog see some simple home tests.
You have seen in this 2nd of a series of 3 videos on your thyroid gland and weight gain,
some of the images suggestive of a under active or slow thyroid. you can download a free pamphlet
including a check list of signs and symptoms from www.richardlipmanmd.com. Be sure to see
