Hi! I’m Melanie McLeroy with Taurus Training for Expert Village and it’s the time to
talk about Beagles. Now, a lot of people get beagles because they don’t really understand
all the breed characteristics. They are awfully cute dogs. This beagle here is Bailey and
he is just adorable. One thing to keep in mind is that beagles are bred to work independently
off humans’ impacts. These dogs prefer to take directions from a very strong dog, not
necessarily from people, now that’s not to say that your beagle cannot be affectionate
of course they are. There are lots of variabilities among dogs. However, if you want a little
snuggle muffin a beagle might not necessarily be the best pick. Little Bailey here, this
beagle has been very interested in his environment since he got here five minutes ago and hasn’t
given me the time of the day. So, it’s going to be important that we train this beagle
from a young age to pay attention, which we will talk about in the next video. Now, the
good news when it comes to training beagles is that they are food hounds. They have an
extremely acute sense of smell, which makes them such good hunting dogs and as you can
see, from Bailey that’s why they have this little white tip on their tail so, the hunters
can see them in the tall grasses. A final note to keep in mind about beagles remember
that they bay. They can be very noisy dogs, so no matter how cute that beagle is in the
window, remember your neighbors might be complaining at a later time. So, those are few of the
breed characteristics of beagles, let’s go and teach Bailey the beagle, how to pay
attention.
