Ritalin is a prescription medication used to treat Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder,
or ADHD. Ritalin is in a class of medications called central nervous system stimulants.
It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain. This medication
comes as regular and extended release tablets, as well as an extended release capsule. The
regular release tablets may be taken 2 to 3 times a day, and the extended release tablets
are usually taken every 8 hours. Take Ritalin tablets 30 to 45 minutes before a meal. The
capsule is typically taken once a day with or without food.
Common side effects of methylphenidate are headache, decreased appetite, and stomach
