OpenLearn's been absolutely fantastic for us
because one of the problems that we had in the first instance
was about visibility.
It's about making the Open University
a visible presence in community campuses.
Whether that's a community centre or people's houses,
and once they're on there, they can then be enabled
to go away and do the work on their own.
We're introducing the university, we're introducing the curriculum,
and we're introducing a new way of learning for a lot of people.
And that builds confidence
because one of our biggest issues with WP or widening partcipation students,
is to manage the expectation.
And this helps us to manage expectation
because there are people who do look at the work of OpenLearn
and say, 'actually, I'm not ready for it yet'.
That doesn't mean they don't want to do it,
it means that we need more preparedness
and we can help with that as well.
We work with other learning providers, whether it's an FE college
or a training provider.
And give them access to the OpenLearn material as well
so they can do the preparedness.
So people are better enabled and will come back to us
perhaps to an OpenLearn course or a next level course.
