Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Thanksgiving Turkey Cakepop Tutorial where I'll be showing
you how to make these fantastic Thanksgiving turkey cakepops that also double as place
cards or place settings. Tools and equipment that we will be using
today: I've got a couple of lollipop sticks.
I've got a marker just for writing the names on the place settings.
I've got a serrated edge knife. A teaspoon.
I've got one of our pre-rolled ready to go cakepop balls. If you don't have a great recipe
and technique for your cakepop balls, make sure you check out our channel. We've got
a full tutorial on how to make those and how to get them to this stage.
I've got some melted dark chocolate. I like to melt 20 grams of Copha, Crisco or shortening
into about 300 grams of melted chocolate. That's the ratio that I use and it just thins
the chocolate out and make it's a lot easier to dip your cakepops into.
I've got some caramel fudge. Now these are not caramel chews. They're actually the soft
caramel fudge. So if you only have caramel chews, you can use those. But you need to
pop them into the microwave to soften them. I've got some candy corn. Our American friends
are very familiar with that. If you're in Australia, you can buy this at a lot of specialty
sweet shops but it's not widely available in our supermarkets.
I've got some little love heart sprinkles, pretty widely available at cake decorating
shops. I've got some small rainbow chocolate chips.
Now these are just candy-covered chocolate chips. They come in a box of assorted colors
and I've just picked out some of the orange ones. They're a lovely triangle shape and
they're going to make the beak of our turkey today.
I've got a couple of Oreo cookies. And a couple of cocktail sticks.
For my printable name place cards, I've got a pre-cut printable. I'll leave a link to
these Thanksgiving-themed printables in the description for this video. I've pre-cut that
as I've mentioned and I've also got a hole punched.
Let's get started. Firstly, I'm going to take the cakepop ball.
Now, normally I would insert the lollipop stick into the flat bottom of the cakepop
ball. But today I'm going to turn it over and I'm going to insert it into the edge.
So that flat bottom is actually going to become the back of the turkey and it's going to meet
up with the turkey's tail. As always, I take my lollipop stick and I
dip it into that melted chocolate and insert into that ball. I'm going to give that about
5 minutes or so to set. Once that's fully set, it's ready for dipping.
Alright, to prepare our turkey's tail, we're going to take our Oreo cookie. I'm going to
carefully cut. I'm not going to twist because I want to make sure neither half of it breaks.
And I'm going to slice away that excess icing. Now to make the tail, I'm going to take one
half and just a little blob of that dark chocolate. And I'm just going to spoon it on to that
half of an Oreo cookie. We're going to take the candy corn. I like to start in the middle
and work my way out. I've used 7 pieces of candy corn in each tail. You can use more
or less depending but I like my turkey to have a nice full tail. You should have something
that looks like that. Now that seal's all nice and set so it's time
to dip our cakepop. I'm going to... I always like to use a nice deep container. I'm actually
using a cup for my cakepop chocolate today. Dip that cakepop in, make sure it meets up
with the seal, give it a little twirl around and bring it out. Give it a little tap off
to tap off any excess chocolate. Try to keep the head of the cakepop which
is actually going to be our base as smooth as you can. So if you need to drip off excess
chocolate, do it from the back. Make sure you remember where that flat back of the cakepop
ball is. Now to dry, I'm just going to sit that on
top of our lovely tail and that's going to start setting.
To make the head, I'm going to take the caramel fudge and I'm going to just cut one of the
pieces in half so that's a two piece [pack that] fudge. I'm probably going to eat the
rest. I'm just going to take that fudge. I'm going to mold it in my hands. I like to give
it just a little knead. It just stops it from being so cracky. It just gets all nice and
soft and smooth to roll into a ball. And I'm going to roll that into a ball. You want it
in, I guess, a bit of an oval shape so... something like that. And while that cakepop's
still wet... Now from there, I going to give that about
another 15 minutes to set and then I'm going to come back and do the face and we'll organize
a little stand to make sure our turkey doesn't fall off the table.
Okay, it's time to pop on our turkey's face. So I'm going to take two of the little love
heart sprinkles, one of those triangular-shaped candy coated chocolate chips and my toothpick.
I'm going to just put a tiny tiny bit of chocolate, tiny little dot of chocolate on the back of
the candy-coated chocolate chip. Don't put too much. You don't want it to come out the
sides. And I'm going to position that in the middle
of our turkey's face. And time for the turkey gobbler, you can use one or two of these.
I think it looks better with two just because it's quite a large turkey. And I'm going to
pop one just on one angle on the side and the other one on the other side.
Once again, just small amount of that dark chocolate. Now for his eyes, it's as simple
as dipping it into the chocolate. I'm dipping a cocktail stick. I should tell you what I'm
dipping into the chocolate -- and one dot for one eye and two dots for the second eye.
So that's essentially your turkey ready to go. Now to get him to stand up on the table
-- because he's a cakepop he is rounded on the base -- so to get him to stand up on the
table, were going to use the other half of that Oreo cookie. It's the same as what we
did with the back. We're going to pop down some of that melted chocolate and I'm just
going to spread it out so that it covers any of that white Oreo frosting that you can see
there, just for neatness. Then I'm going to take our turkey friend and
I'm going to stand him up. Now that chocolate is going to act like a glue. This is the tricky
part because you are going to have to just support him for a few minutes until that chocolate
becomes tacky. And then stand and let him stand and dry for about ten minutes. Once
he's dry, he won't fall over but you really do want to give him enough time to probably
dry before you try to let him go or wonder away too far.
Okay, so you can certainly leave your Thanksgiving turkey cakepop there if you like as just a
cakepop. We're going to take in that extra level and we're going to make him a place
setting. So as I've mentioned, I've got these lovely
printables. I'm going to punch the holes in the printables first because I found that
when I wrote on them first my holes weren't quite even with my writing. So I figure if
I punch the holes first, then I can write even with the holes.
To [fill] this one, I'm just going to take a marker and just write whatever name you'd
like there. And it's as easy as popping one hole in and then the other.
So there you have your fantastic Thanksgiving turkey place card settings, place settings,
favors. And look there's so much going on. You've got an Oreo cookie, a cakepop, a bit
of fudge. Why not make them dessert? If you love our tutorials, make sure that
