bjbj Custom grip tape jobs like this one are really simple to do and just about anybody
can do them. The first thing you need to know is how to put on grip tape, so check out the
video on how to aply grip tape correctly if you don t already know because I m not going
to go into a whole bunch of detail about how to apply grip tape, this is just for custom
jobs. Now, the difference between these two is that this one right here just has the graphic
printed on it and this one right here, obviously I used a sticker because Osiris is not a deck
company. So for stickers, they re going to be a lot easier to do, especially the ones
that are cut out. Any of the ones that are a rectangle and you want to cut the letters
you, they re going to be done just like the graphic. So, let s get started! The first
thing you want to do is figure out where you d like your vertical line to go that goes
from one end to the other and through the image. Be sure you have the sticker face down
and turned the right way. With a yard stick or straight edge, draw a line down the paper.
Next, cut along the line. It doesn t need to be perfect because this line won t represent
our line on the deck. We re going to use the two existing outside edges to make our vertical
line, so turn your skinny piece around to line up the existing edges face-to-face, and
then tape them together. This is how we get a perfect straight line. Now, figure out where
you d like to place your sticker. You can eyeball it, but to be safe, measure the distance
from the bottom of the sticker to the end of the deck and then add about half an inch
to the paper side of the grip tape, because the grip tape is longer than the deck. When
you ve got the sticker in place, tape it down on both ends and then trace around the entire
sticker. When you come to a spot where the tape is, just move the tape over. When you
re done tracing, move the sticker over the same width as the outer edge of the image
and the edge of the sticker. This keeps it even when we move the skinny piece over it
to make the line. Remove the sticker and scribble out the old line. Now, start cutting out the
grip tape. Be careful in the corners. When you re done, you may need to go back and fix
the corners a little bit. Put the sticker on the deck above where you marked it. To
avoid air-bubbles or creases, lay the sticker down from one end to the other. Remove the
tape holding the two pieces of grip-tape together. Tear the paper off around the cut-out. This
makes it much easier to apply the grip tape and get it lined up around the sticker. Now
gently lay the grip-tape on the deck and line up the grip tape. Once it s in the right spot,
press the grip tape firmly to the deck. Now peel off the paper backing and stick the grip
to the deck. Do the same to the other side. Now just repeat the same steps with the skinny
piece. As you lay your grip-tape down, just make sure your line remains the same width
all the way down. Once the grip-tape is on, score it to create a guiding line so it s
easier to cut. When roughening up the edge, hit the line area a couple of times to keep
it from peeling up. Take a look at that not bad at all, huh? AS you can see, doing a custom
grip tape job was pretty simple to do. Now, for graphics on a deck or you want to use
a sticker and cut out the lettering or the graphic, you re going to want to use a piece
of tissue paper. Now any place that sells shoes (like a skateshop) will be happy to
give you a piece of this, and you re going to want to use it because as you can see,
it s see-through, and what we re going to do is we re going to trace out this graphic
onto the paper, so let s get started on this one. Tape the tissue paper down over the graphic.
Stretch the paper out as much as you can without tearing it then start tracing. It s up to
you if you want to trace around the edge of the graphic or give it a little border like
I did with the Osiris sticker. Then carefully take off the tissue paper and fold the tape
over onto the paper. With the traced side face-down and right-side up, tape the tissue
paper down on the backside of the grip tape. Don t forget to measure the distance from
the bottom of the graphic and the edge of the deck and then add a little bit more space
for the grip tape. Now use a pen that will bleed or leak through the tissue paper and
onto the grip tape paper as you trace over your outline. When you re done tracing, peel
back one side to make sure you ve got most of the image on the grip-tape. If not, you
can fold the tissue paper back over and fix any spots. Now you just connect the dots to
create the outline perfectly on the grip-tape paper. When you are done, remove the tissue
paper and start cutting out the grip tape. After cutting, peel off the paper backing
around the cut-out and line up the grip tape over the graphic and press firmly to hold
the grip tape in place. Remove the paper backing completely, score the grip tape and cut it
and you re done! I really like the way this graphic just pops right off the grip tape.
Now you know how to do custom grip-tape jobs and you know that they re real simple to do,
so it s just up to you as to how creative you want to get and after you do your own
custom grip-tape job, put on some trucks and wheels and go skate! [Content_Types].xml _rels/.rels
