- Hi!
- Hi.
- How're you doing?
- I'm alright.
- Well, I'm the chair for this year. My name's Natassia, everyone calls me Nat.
- Hi, Nat.
- And this is the new secretary!
- Hi, I'm Jess, and I'm gonna be the secretary.
- The Anime Society is
like any interest group in the Uni.
It's a bunch of people coming together
for a common interest and getting to meet new friends.
So, we usually have a bi-weekly session where we watch anime
and events going on throughout the year,
like paintballing,
- The maid café!
- Oh, yeah. Um..
- Cosplay picnics..
Themed nights, like the magical girl night,
or mecha night,
maybe some more adult-themed anime
- Events at the M&K, things like film screenings,
- Paintballing...
Mustn't forget the paintball--
And the Christmas party, that was fun.
- We have so many events, that we won the most active
society award this year, for some reason.
- Yaaay!
- That was surprising.
- And we also do, um, if you join the anime and manga club
you get access to our manga library, so you can borrow books
and you can offer your own books up for borrowing, as well.
- And this year we're doing a digital swapover, so
if you have digital copies of anime you can share with
other people in the society.
Essentially you'll probably be communicating
with me and Jess the most.
Maybe Daniel.
- ..Who is our social secretary for our Facebook page,
which you can join now, if you want.
- He's an introvert.
- ((Shh! No! We're all really happy social people.))
- We also have a twitter.
- We do?
- We do! We have a twitter!
And we have a youtube, and we have an e-mail address,
which you can contact us on, which is just
uclananime at hotmail dot co dot UK.
Occasionally we have bake sales to raise money for RAG
because, "raising and giving".
- And cake.
- And cake.
- Come to us, we provide CAKE!
- What else do we do?
- I don't know!
- What else is there?
- Well, there's plans for this coming year, we could discuss that...
- We watch anime, guys.
- We watch anime! We're planning more film screenings,
in collaboration with the film society,
- Yeah, so you can watch anime on big TVs.
- Oh, we have tombolas and prizes.
We're /hopefully/ getting the nerdy societies together
to do a big, geeky quiz and then we'll have
massive prizes, and charge people for entry, and y'know.
- Erm, are we going to doki-doki?
- We might be going to doki-doki.
- Yeah, we might be going to the doki-doki festival,
that's in manchester.
- Depending on how many people are going,
we could actually organize a minibus.
- Yay! You mean I have to organize a minibus.
- Erm, [nervous giggle]
Yes, well I'll just delegate...
What else is there?
- I don't know.
- We're not just into tentacle ***. Isn't that reassuring?
- We're not what?
- We're not just into tentacle ***!
- Oh yeah, there is tentacle ***.
- There is tentacle ***, but we're not just into that.
And this year, we have a less fascist regime,
so you can play card games!
You know, quietly.
- On motorcycles.
- On motorcycles, clearly.
If they don't play it on motorcycles, I'll be disappointed.
- What happens after the society meetings?
- We go to the pub, and we get drunk.
No, we do not get drunk.
- We generally go to Wetherspoons, and we have meals together,
and we just socialize and get to know each other better,
it's really informal.
And, even if you're not really into anime, you can
bring your friends and stuff. We just all sit around
and have a good time.
- It's a nicer place to talk.
And if you don't go to the pub, I cannot remember your name.
Yes, I do that!
- If you don't come to the pub, you don't exist!
- My memory's just like, "Who the %^&* is this...? Ehh.."
"Where's the list of members?"
It's only five pounds! It's a very low price.
- We have to charge you that. The Uni says we have to.
- Well, yeah. We have to charge you for stuff like food,
the Christmas party, the summer party...
Events that we hold, because things like films are
80 pounds for the copyright.
- Sometimes on the weekend we have film days.
- And marathons. Strangely enough, never anime.
- We gotta branch out. There's more than just anime.
- Yeah. There's more to Anime than anime.
- Sometimes we watch dramas..
- We watch live action films..
- Yeah, really cheesy ones.
- We have some really strange theme nights, recently.
Like, that cater to certain tastes.
I shouldn't say that!
I don't know!
We try and be as sociable as possible, although it's kinda hard
when most of the society is introverts,
so expect ice-breakers!
- We're also going to try and collaborate with other societies that
have similar interests, like video game society, Japanese society,
and the film society, and try and get some really good events going on.
- Come to us! I don't know what days we're on.
We can decide that later.
- Soon.
- Are we at the freshers' fair?
- We're at the freshers' fair.
- Yeah, come find us at the freshers' fair.
- We'll be at a table where, y'know - crazily dressed.
- The cosplays, and the shouts, and the animez.
