Hey, guys.
I'm gonna show you how to decompile L4D2 Survivors, and import them in 3DS Max.
Links will be in the description.
Download MDLDecomiler version 0.4.1
It seems to work the best.
Go to (steamapps > *your username* > source sdk > bin > ep1 > bin) and paste/move it in there.
Create a shortcut if you like. (recommended)
Now open up mdldecompiler.exe and toggle off the last option(click on it)
Browse where you decompiled your L4D2 charatcer.
Oh, I forgot how to show you where the L4D2 survivor models are located...
Open up the program called "GCFScape". (Link also in description)
In the root L4D2 folder, browse for a file called "pak_001_dir.vpk"
Then navigate to models > survivors
Press SHIFT to select a row of files. Then extract them into your desired folder.
Copy and paste the .dx90 file. Instead of ".dx90", rename it to ".dx80"
Go download the program "notepad++"(or a hex editor if you like) and open up the mdl file.
You'll see IDST0. Change it to > IDST,(or anything else other than a 0 or space.)
Important:Do not delete the 5th character!(where the 0 was)
NOW you can navigate to your MDL file.
Choose your output folder.
And BAM, you have the SMD file!
Grab the SMD importer in the description.
Import the SMD that has the name "_model_merged.dmx.s md"
And there you go!
