So you've figured out that you like helping people and you want to make a career out of
it. I'm Virginia Intelisano mental health therapist, registered intern with the state
of Florida and I'm here today to talk to you about how to become a counselor. The first
thing you want to do is graduate from a high school and get yourself accepted into a four
year program, a college or a university. You can either major in psychology or major in
any other line of work. After you receive your bachelors degree you can apply for a
masters degree. As a masters level student you'll be in a mental health counselor program
or social work counselor program. After you graduate from your masters you're going to
apply for work and do an internship. The internship usually takes about two years to complete.
However you are making money all along the way. You're making money after your internship
in your masters level program. And you're going to start out at about thirty to thirty-five
thousand dollars a year. You can become a masters level clinician or a licensed clinician
just two years after you graduate.
