Hi Kristi Feretti with Expert Village. A lot of practices that are used in restaurants
and commercial kitchens are good things to use in your home. It is going to ensure you
have a better product and safe food for your family. So for example FIFO is one of the
commonly used practices in the food industry. FIFO stands for first in, first out. So when
I get a new product in a restaurant for example these artichokes I am going to place it on
the back of the shelf so that when my employees come to grab the product from here they are
going to take the older product we have. That's going to ensure that this is the first product
used and and the new product is used last. You can apply this to everything in your home,
in terms of food, canned goods, dry goods, sugars, flours, you can use it in your freezer
as long as you are dating and labeling your foods properly. If you get a new pack of yogurt
from the grocery store pull the old ones out put the new ones in the back and move the
older ones to the front. It may take a little more time and a little more energy but in
the end it is going to save you money and give you better fresher tasting food in your
home.
