SUTTON FOSTER: I'm Sutton Foster from
ABC Family's Bunheads.
And an old dance phrase that I've learned to be true is,
"the grosser the feet, the better the dance
studio." Trust me.
It's true.
EMMA DUMONT: But there's something
so funny about dancers.
It's really true what they say, the grosser the feet, the
better the dancer.
I mean, you take off our pointe shoes, they're pretty
and pink, but when you look underneath there's blisters
and callouses and things you don't really want to see.
-Nice pictures?
Is this a new internet thing I'm happy to be too old to
know about?
-We're taking pictures of our feet.
-Yeah, I got the what.
Just looking for the why.
-We're having a contest to see who's are the most disgusting.
MICHELLE (OFFSCREEN): Uhhh.
-We're competing with schools all over California because
the grosser the feet--
-The better the dance studio.
I'm with you.
KELLY BISHOP: You know if you're going to wear pointe
shoes, if you're trained in ballet, and you're wearing
pointe shoes, your feet are going to get a
little messed up.
And that's why you'll often see ballet dancers when
they're dressed up and they're going out you don't see toes.
You see a closed toe shoe, because we
know it's not pretty.
SUTTON FOSTER: I've seen some gross feet in my day.
I've seen some-- my feet, I think I have
some pretty nice feet.
But I have seen some nasty, nasty feet.
I've lost some toenails in my life, and I've been proud of
that, oddly.
SASHA (OFFSCREEN): My big toenail just came off.
My big toenail just came off.
-Yes, suck it La Canata.
JULIA GOLDANI TELLES: Just being on pointe makes your
feet really messed up, some people more than others.
But when I was little I wouldn't wear sandals, because
I was embarrassed.
But I don't think it makes you a better dancer if you have
more messed up feet.
It just depends on the person.
KAITLYN JENKINS: The grosser the feet scene.
We have all these blisters and in-grown toenails, and
basically, the whole idea behind that is that however
gross your feet are or however many battle wounds, you could
say, that you have--
like how many blisters, split toenails, anything--
the better your dance studio is because it means you work
harder, and you dance harder.
So that's the whole reasoning behind that.
-OK, I'm sorry kid, but a split toenail is not
going to cut it.
If it were infected then we could talk.
-But it's turning black and blue.
See?
-Seriously?
You call that black and blue?
Pfft, call me when you get some glasses.
Off the tree.
What you got for me?
-Bunions.
There, there, and there.
-Nice.
BAILEY BUNTAIN: You don't want to see them.
I think if you decide to be a dancer, you've pretty much
given up the right to wear flip-flops because it'll hurt
other people's eyes.
I mean, your feet are your instrument so they're going to
be a little beaten up.
SUTTON FOSTER: Don't forget to watch Bunheads
Mondays on ABC family.
