CINDY MASTRY: In this clip, Faith is going to help me demonstrate how a strap can really
help you come into Paripurna Navasana or full boat pose with the proper alignment. It's
a little difficult at first to find out the proper length of your strap but what you're
going to do is play with it a little bit and then set your strap right there. We've already
done this for Faith. So what you're going to do once you have a circle made out of your
strap is Faith's going to take that and she's going to slip it over her head and bring it
right to her upper back, right beneath her shoulder blades. Now, you don't want this
in the mid back or the low back. We want it right beneath the shoulder blades. Good. She's
going to bring her knees up and place it around her feet. Good. Good. So you've made like
a little harness for yourself. She's then going to place her hands back behind and press
her palms down, squeeze her knees and her feet together and then extend her legs up.
Good. Notice how this opens up through her chest, allows her heart to open, allows the
lungs to open, get a lot more prana air into her lungs. Good. Notice the nice long spine,
and this allows you to feel that long spine lengthen through your legs. It would be okay
to have bent knees. You could also practice it right there as well. Good. But using the
strap, go ahead and straighten your legs. Using the strap allows you to hold this and
takes the balance issue out of it just a little bit so that you can come into stillness and
feel the energetic release and the energetic flow within the body.
