My period is shorter and lighter than usual. Should I be worried?
Do you want to be pregnant?
OK, now I am officially worried.
One possible reason why your period is shorter and lighter than usual is that you are spotting
after conceiving.
How can I know for sure?
Get an early pregnancy test and take it. While some of them are positive a few days before
your period, almost all of them will be accurate when your period is officially started.
That’s enough to stress me out.
Another possibility is that you’ve been under so much stress that your period is light.
Your body was devoting so much energy to your fight and flight response it did nothing to
prepare for a baby.
I can’t think of anything major except exams.
Our bodies are programmed to live in a world of sabertooth tigers and monsters that would
eat us. We take minor annoyances today and blow them up into major proportions because
the major proportions don’t exist anymore.
Taxes, NSA spying, global warming.
It was warmer during the Medieval Warm Period a thousand years ago and late Roman Empire
1800 years ago than it was today, and they didn’t have electricity back then. NSA spying
is bad, but the usable data is overwhelmed by amateur videos and dumb tweets.
Is having to watch all those bad videos and teenaged snap-chat sufficient punishment for
spying on us or an incentive?
I don’t know. But being stressed over minor stuff interfere with your period, when the
reflexes evolved from shutting down reproduction when you couldn’t take care of yourself.
What else could it be?
It could be Menopause.
If that’s the case, I have a lot to be worried about.
At your age, you shouldn’t be worried about it.
And if I’m pregnant?
You have every reason to worry.
