PAT FORDE: Welcome back to the Forde Yard Dash.
And as we're coming to the end of October,
there already have been seven coaching changes
in FBS football.
It's amazing the turnover to date.
And there of course will be more.
Let's take a look at five more schools
that could be in line for a coaching change,
possibly even during the season.
But let's start with Purdue.
Darrell Hazell is only in his third year there,
but things have gone so badly, and with the announcement
that they are starting a $60 million
renovation of the football facilities,
it might be hard sell to boosters and donors
with the same coaching staff intact there.
The expectation is Purdue will make a change.
It's long been considered a formality
that Virginia will make a move on Mike London.
He's probably kept his job longer than expected.
So expect a turnover there at Virginia.
Program that has just not been able to gain
any traction in the ACC.
Then you have to look at Rutgers, which has just
had an unbelievable laundry list of bad headlines
and misfortune.
Even when they had the remarkable comeback victory
over Indiana, they followed it up
with a 49-7 home dud against Ohio State.
Kyle Flood, way too many people looking for too many problems
there.
So I think he will be out at the State University of New Jersey.
And a couple of places with institution coaches,
legendary guys that have built the program,
and may not want to go.
But there's going to have to be a little bit
of a delicate dance to decide if they are to leave, how,
and possibly who replaces them.
Virginia Tech and Frank Beamer, the declining returns
there have been well documented in recent years.
And again, the Hokies are out of contention
to win their division in the ACC.
But will Beamer hang it up without anybody forcing him
out?
That's the big question.
And then Kansas State, where Bill Snyder
has done as good a job as any coach
in the country over the years to make that place a contender.
He's headed to the Hall of Fame.
But does he want to name his own successor?
And how easily can an athletic director, John Curry,
put up with that sort of scenario or would he
want to name his own guy there?
So stay tuned there and elsewhere,
as the coaching changes continue to happen in college football.
I'm Pat Forde and thanks for checking out the Forde Yard
Dash.
